I don't think we missed Setanta against Essendon* as there wasn't a suitable match up for him.

This week against Collingwood he will be required however.

As some other posters have stated, Setanta is now 25yo and needs a "breakthrough game" in the near future, whether it be kicking a bag up forward or playing a blinder in defence.

the backline plays better without him??? What are wwe talking here, a one or two goal difference...out of 25???

My problem is that Setanta has never seemed to have that one breakthrough game, where he kicks a bag or gets 25 touches...but i think he can do it, and i dont think 25 is too old in a team of young'uns! Ratten, or someone, just needs to give him confidence! Pity if he didn't know how many people here (TC) support him (albeit with detractors too..fair enough) and his brother..

sure I'd keep him in the side... and agree totally with Ryan2000...atleast he's got mongrel. Who else does???

Yes you said it, in a team of young'uns! The more reason when someone that been in the system for so long and is 25 years old you expect him to read the game much better, as other wise you are robbing a young’un a spot in the side so he can mature earlier, I agree, more than 75% of the people here on TC support him.

I think Setanta is the one guy who is not affected by the losing mentality around our club. His interaction with Lloyd last year just highlighted to me how he didn't care who he was on (lets face it...one of the great players of the game), doesn't care what the score is, will still not drop his head and give 100%.

I say keep waite at CHB, and alternate Jameison and Setanta at FB on the gun forwards. And if both of them are getting towelled up, use thornton.

Setanta is far and away our best choice for full back, and could well be the best in the AFL in a few years if we play him there and leave him there.
Last year he beat Richo, Lloyd and Gherig clearly and he's still got tons of improvement in him.

If the opposition has a couple of gorillas up forward, as Collingwood does, he must play.

Last week against Essendon*, Jamison was more than equipped for Lloyd, with Waite on McPhee the other major match up in their forward line.

There was simply no role for Setanta to play. Horses for courses.

Play him in a floating role. Instruct him to start on the wing and to run back and help the defence.

He has lost plenty of weight and surely some strength due to his illness......he'll be behind the 8 ball most of this season unfortunately.

Reply to Rod Waddell's post - Setanta should be played at CHB and rotate with Jamieson at FB for the rest of 2008.
Waite should be put on Heath Shaw this week to try and stop his 30 Possy 10 Mark game?

I actually think we need Waite @ CHB on Cloke this week.
I would make Heath Shaw accountable via a Gibbs, who can also hurt him going the other way.

Whats with the bloody fascination of Setanta??? If he had no Irish links and was taken at pick 20 from the Northern Knights, we'd all be very concerned with him right now.

He's not good enough.

..for me, since he wasn't born in ireland, he's not irish.. ..so that whole irish thing for me is a lil' off kilter ya dig.. ..what i do like about him is his hunger.. ..he's one of the hungriest players we'd have for a few years now.. ..he's not weak, he's not timid.. ..another thing our list is short on..
