There i said it...............

what have been your favorite losses..............?

yeah i know....i know..........you're thinking i've LOST it.....
why the hell's tommi talking about losses........and then looking
for your favorite ones..........?

well...........a wonderful thing happened yesterday morning...
around 11:39......but more on that in a minute........!

we arrived at the salubrious surrounds of the County Motel...
Main st West Wyalong late saturday..........what they don't tell you is...
Main st is actually the Newell highway............no by-pass around
the Long......it's straight down the main st for those two hundred
and 7 wheelers...................allllllllllll night.........!

aaaanyway...................!

after my frantic look through the motel tv guides.......i was
disappointed the game wasn't on late saturday night.......but then
mildly delighted with the fact it was on Poxtel at 10:30 in the
ay em..............!

if only we could keep away from the scores for the night......
then we could watch it in the morning all fresh............!

can i tell yas.................keeping away from AFL scores in mid NSW....?

piece a piss...............they really don't care............poor bastards...........!

so..........after waking at 7.........(bloody daylight savings).........
i had a few hours to kill..........i broke my fast.......watched a few
episodes of Rocky and Bullwinkle......and sat by the pool.............!

i wish they'd put the pool down the back of the block though........
i tell yas...............those truck were FEET away from me.........!

i washed off the dust and prepared..............!

10:30.......?

tick.....!

coffee.......?

tick.......!

pillows fluffed up on motel bed..........?

tick.........!

now..........lets unplug the dvd player and get this footy on..........
where's that remote.............*flick*..............what's this........?

GOLF..................?

womens golf too BOOT..............!

WHERE'S THE FOOTBAAAAAAALL i cried..........why's the golf on......?

look.........don't get me wrong......i love watching the ladies play golf.....
i mean........i could watch Michelle Wie all day.............but not this
morning............we need football...........!

well it was only a couple of minutes before the game started.......
but we'd waited 12 hours....we were ready...........i say we.....
because our "John" is a Blue Boy too.........so we have a lot
of tv games together...........!

look............sorry folk............i've just left this post and gone and
had dinner......now i've kinda lost my train of thought.............!

but what i need to get out is this.............!

no......................not that.......................this...............!

by half way through the third quarter......."John" and i were
perched on the edge of the bed......screamimg in unison............

FE-VO-LAAAAAAAA................!

it was at that moment that we looked at each other and just
smiled..........we just smiled.............!

it was the happiest we'd been for a very long time...........!

afterthatwedroppedoffandthingschangedandtheDoomedwon.......but hey...
bloody hell.........we were stoked with what we'd seen.........!

on the way home yesterday arvo.........our "Paul".. turned to me
and said..........."ya know what.........i'm really happy for you
guys........i was sitting by the pool when you were watching the football....
and i heard an almighty FEVOLAAAA..........and i could just tell......
you were very excited".............!

and he was right........we were excited.......why wouldn't you be....?

i'm not going to go on about bad things..........in fact i'm not even
going to go on about good things.......we all saw them.........
we all know what can.....and will happen........and soon too..........!

maybe next week............?

who knows......but if not.......very soon...............!

i've put the chair back and the feet up folk............and at some stage
intend to put my hands behind my head and just enjoy the ride............!

cos that game on saturday night...........?

well............that was my favorite loss.............!

if that makes any sense........!

kindest regards tommi

does it make sense............?

Brisbane in the first SF in '99 as it was the beginning of the best 3 weeks of my footy life (and almost the end of my marriage :))!

Awesome Tommi - Reading that out loud in a Liverpool accent made the story sound even better for some reason!

As for my favorite loss - Round 6, 1981. I was only 7 at the time and to be honest it's the first game I can remember going to the footy at Princes Park. We were absolutely smashed by Collingwood that day by 10 goals...but I was so happy to go to the footy and see my heroes close up that the result didn't matter. Dad always said I was the only one in a navy blue jumper leaving that game with a smile on my face. Dad had a beard in those days too...I wholeheartedly approved of the facial hair - beards were respected and feared in those days. Bosustow, Doull, Klomp, Ashman, Dad (!)..not to mention the mo's on Hunter, Maylin, 'Wow' Jones, Fitzpatrick and Perovic. Ah - those were the days...smiling after a 10 goal loss to the filth at your home game and going on to beat them in the Grand Final. Good times.

Ha...I remember that game Doc. Best on ground that day was one Mark Williams. At one point, as one of our players' went to kick the ball off half back, Williams literally picked the ball off his boot mid-kick, ran, bounced, and goaled. One of the most amazing pieces of play I have ever seen.

But a very depressing game.

really good post tommi.

fev was just brilliant on saturday night, judd irresistible, betts unbelievable, gibbs and murphy both impressed...jeez we played some great footy during the course of the game, some really exciting, passionate footy. the MCG was rocking because of the blues again, and the place felt alive for the first time in years. we shook it and we gave it a mighty effort, an effort that could get wins on other nights i reckon.

irregardless of what people think about where were at, i dont think even the most cynical doomsayer could have left the ground or switched off the TV after the match thinking its still all doom and gloom. yeah we lost, yeah its disappointing, but for a couple hours on saturday night the navy blue was exciting, it was a juggernaught, it was unpredictable, it was irrepressible, and it was bursting at the seems with adrenalin...when stevo hit 2 from 2 in the space of 30 seconds it conjured memories of campo breaking the arc and striking a daggerblow to the heart of our opponents, when judd was cutting the Essendon* midfield to ribbons, running hard and hitting targets it was like braddles was out there, when murph showed the poise and awareness of diesel to hit teammates lace out after seeing off a couple would-be tacklers and when kruezer cooly stood in the line of fire against much more mature bodies yet kept going as hard as he could the blues saw the light, a glimpse of the future...

yeah we're still a little while off, but matches like saturday night go a long way to reaffirming the faith.

One of the losses I didn't feel too bad about was last year's shoot out with Brisbane. Enjoyed that more than the shoot out we had with the bombers last weekend. Only because the Lions aren't as annoying.
