Voss is as ordinary a commentator going round. He's the new Dermie- gets highly excited by his speculative insight and is more often than not highly incorrect. He really is your modern day 'trained-for-media' baboon. No class, no balance but overly confident.

In terms of the discrepancy in free kicks- I knew it was bad Saturday night but not that bad.

About as good as SOS  .

I think as commentators both SOS and Voss will make great assistant coaches.

BTW - I saw SOS walk into the ground on Saturday Night in his civvies (casual clothes - jeans and T-shirt so he wouldnt have been going to an official Carlton Function dressed like that :? )

I havent checked the fixture - so I wasnt sure if he was forward scouting for St. Kilda - or just attending a Carlton Game as an ordinary life member of the club. :?

The scum play the sinners in Round 5.

Did he carry a pen and paper with him?

They had 3 free kicks in the forward line - any idea how many of those resulted in goals?

3.

They must have had 3 where the next posseession after a free was a goal and about 6 where a goal was started by a free somewehere on the field without Carlton touching the ball

I reckon thats pretty close. Not to mention the 3 free kicks in our own fwd 50 that cost us goals.

I also loved the one where Feva took the sliding chest mark 40m out directly in front and one Ump called 'play on' and the other called mark. Obviously the oaf that called the mark must have gotten a right roasting in the rooms after the game, expect him to be umpiring at Bethanga next Saturday!

Was about to say this one myself. It was umpire 28 and he called play on from his spot which was behind Fev. Must have eyes that bend around corners.

Essendon* will have to be the Softest team i ever saw...

You just couldnt touch them at all. One reason why the game became a Shoot out is because our Boys couldnt play physical footy to stop the Flow of Goals.

How many Goals did we give away to Free Kicks? almost half of them...

The Umpires were the 23th man against us.... Terrible :(

Indeed. Hard to go past that one for sheer idiocy.

I guarantee that had it been Fev leaping on top of Alwyn Davey that it would have been paid the other way.

Mate I wasn't even p!ssed off with this one. I just had to laugh it was that bad. A 5 foot bloke standing there waiting for the ball, a giant jumps on his head too early and falls over, and he gets a free!! was eddie supposed to run away from the contest? BAHHHH

Other than that, a Bumbers player had it on their forward flank, was running with the ball under one arm, got tackled by one the two, when he hit the ground the ball spilled out, our boys got up to take their free kick, all while another bumbers player picked up the pill and strolled into goal.

IMPROPER DISPOSAL YOU YELLOW MAGGOT.

If you possess the ball, have opportunity to dispose of the ball prior to the tackle, and get tackled without properly disposing of the ball by hand or foot, it is HOLDING THE FLOWER BALL.
sorry, it's just when they strolled into a goal i cringed

The Eddie Betts one is the worst decision I've seen in a very long time. The umpire took about a minute to call it as well.

I was sitting in The Ponsford stand so I was a fair way away but I think there was a Kade Simpson one in the 3rd quarter where he was tackled basicly as soon as he took posession and got pinged for holding it. Didnt look like he had any opportunity to get rid of it from where I was.

I hope they do question it during the week. 28-15 or 27-14 or whatever it was is as lopsided as I've ever seen a free kick count. Especially in such an even contest. It wasnt as though they were earning frees for making all the play. Very frustrating.

While not umpiring decisions but they should have been - the two hits by Essendon* players on Carlton players as reported by the Martch Review - 1. McVeigh for punching Fevola = REPRIMAND.
2. Ramaanskus for punching Betts = REPRIMAND.
I just wonder what would have occurred if they punching had (a) been retailiated or (b) initiated by the punched player on the punching player.

The problem with the Umpires is that when it comes to frees they look for 'name' players. Who was the bloke who was getting our frees? Judd. As Verbs said to me, they would never give one to Bannister, they'd give it to number 31. That's all too hard, so they just pick out a big name player and give them the free kick. Our no namers don't stand a chance of having a call go their way.

As for my favourite bad decision... has to be the Eddie Betts' tunneling incident. Just ridiculous. A few other good nominations though. The goal that broke our back in the third when the Essendon* player went up 30 mins before acceptances and took our defenders out of the contest. The ability of Hille to continually take the ball from the ball up, get tackled while in possession, and somehow not get pinged was also pretty 'special'.

I hope that the club has at least approached the AFL/ Geischen with regards to the standard and particular one sided interpretations of the umpires for the game.

If i remember correctly the 1st carlton vs Essendon* game in '07 was also VERY badly umpired With one umpire, i think Vozzo not awarding 1 free to carlton, while giving 9 to Essendon*. (Including a non call where one of the Johnsons took Fev out of a marking contest from front on, and Fev was put on the floor for a min or so).

Maybe some of us angrier supporters should put some dollars together for a private investigator to ensure that no AFL umpires/ umpires families or AFL employees are gaining financially from these types of events.

I know it won't happen, but the umpiring really getting beyond a joke.

Just remembering last years corresponding game and had a little laugh to myself.
The McVeigh mark on Thornton was neither too high OR hands in the back. The 'official' word out of the AFL was that it was "in between the two area. Not the neck and not the back."

That would make it the nack.

I went to my doctor, Doc Reid who happens to be the Essendon* club doctor, and told him I had a sore nack.

He said "what the @#$%&! is a nack?"
I told him he should know because it was where McVeigh grabbed Thornton on his way to that mark.

Before team selections this week, I will be interested to see who is assigned to umpire the Blues' match.

If it is either Karmolins, K Nicholls or Ryan we are screwed.

Carlton should advise the AFL in the strongest terms possible that we do not wish them to officiate Carlton matches in future.

Fev took a mark at the 50 in ?the 1st 1/4. Took it low down but at least 1/2m above the ground. Umpire 25 who was in Carlton's 50 called play-on. It took the central umpire running from the square to change the decision.

Umpire number 25 was Shaun Ryan.

From what I gather umpire number 28 - Kieron Nicholls- is the one that is most likely to be anti-carlton in his decisions.
