Ha ha! I used to work at the Services Club in Mulwala many years ago. Happy to never set foot in the place again just quietly.

For the record, my mate and I were in Barbados for the cricket WC and listened to the game at some un-godly hour on his laptop! I was too hungover to get excited I must confess.........

Ski clubs up on the right? They were doing alterations up there at the Ski club in Jan.

Funny thing is, I am up there as of tomorrow on and end of season Cricket trip and will miss the game at the G. Will be at a pub in a not to fit state to see this one!

You are correct mate...I spent my teens in Yarra. Not a bad town. Pretty good footy team these days too.

Probably best to go to one of the clubs to watch the game Sat night. From memory the pubs used to be pretty dead. That was 15 years ago though!!

I was up there in maybe 92-93 when they drained the lake. I remember one of the clubs had a huge pokie machine, indoor bowls all that sort of thing. I was at the ski club on a Wednesday night in early January, the place was pretty packed, had a band and was great fun. So you think a club would be better than a pub? On a Saturday night? I think we are actually staying at Burkes. The old Royal.

I hate not being here to go to the footy. But end of season trips are something else!

Come to think of it too, we have not won a game in something like 10 months, I have watched us go down time and time again. We will bloody win this one and I wont be there!

The clubs always had a bit more action than the pubs back in the day. Things may have changed - haven't been out there for years.....

My mates and I found all sorts of s**t in the lake when they drained it - including (I s**t you not) a set of false teeth!!

I was at the game in the MCC members and ran into Justin Madden at half time when we were the best part of 8 goals down. Justin was present to give the inaugural "Madden Cup" to the winner. I had a Carlton jumper on and remarked that "it doesn't look good" and Justin rolled his eyes and said, "No, it doesn't. I hope it gets better". We chatted for a bit. He's a great fella, Justin.

As Pink once warbled, "Who knew?". One of the greatest days at the footy ever. I'll be honest. I never thought we were a chance.

I paid to attend the "Anthony Koutoufides room" in the Ryder stand with my wife and sons.

Just as the club represenative was handing out match day seats, a few friends of said representative arrived and were handed reserved seats to watch the game.
Unfortunately these friends were Essendon* supporters (in full Essendon* gear) and proceeded to sit next to me.

For the next hour, all I heard was "Go Pev", "smash em' Bombers" etc.
Needless to say, after half time, they went a bit quieter.

Just on this point, it frustrates the hell out of me that club representatives hand out reserved seats to friends and gives them access to Carlton reserved areas when Carlton supporters are handing out big bucks to have the privilege. On the odd occasion wouldnt hurt but it occured a couple of times I attended.
I dont want to be too critical of this person because they do a lot of fantastic stuff for the club but as a paying participant, its a bit hard to cop.

In a similar vain, I always have a chuckle to myself when I remember a news report I saw just after Liver-poo won the European Champions League in 2005 on penalties after being 3-0 down at half time. A Liver-poo supporter was crying outside the ground as he left at half time, blubbering about how it had all gone wrong but we'll be back next year!

The poor ba**ard! He will NEVER live that down!

It would be like a Blues fan leaving at half time in the 1970 decider.
