Was at that game too, standing in the forward pocket in the outer, with all the other Carlton supporters.

The headling in the newspaper read "Jezza's Blue Magic Spells Magpie Gloom".

I was there at the Yarra Falls End - right behind the goals

Remember travelling on the Green Chunder Bus from Bulleen that went down Johnston Street and then on to Garden City - got there at 8.00am in the morning before the gates had opened.

Fantastic game - I remember Rod Ashman playing as a decoy Full Forward in that game - he would go up for the mark tap it behind his head and rove his own taps to kick a goal - he must of kicked 2 or 3 this way.

The bus trip home was fantastic - wanted to give it to the Collingwood Supporters - but not many travelled back home to the Eastern Suburbs in those days. :P

We had only won 1 of our first 6 games - Ian Stewart had "resigned" Serge had been caretaker coach for 3 games then George Harris appointed Jezza in an inspired move to coach.

Jezza nearlly took us to the flag in his first year as we won 14 of the next 17 games - a final round loss to St Kilda  - at Moorabbin costing us the double chance.

As I lived in Mildura in those days, I saw it on the Ch 7 replay- it was played in slush, rain and mud. From memory, I saw McConville from the wing repeatedly drive the long to the goal square where Ashman would bring others into the play....And AGRO, I cried and pleaded with my Collingwood-supporting dad to pray with me to reverse that result against St.Kilda in the last round- it was a fine, sunny day and the Moorabbin was like quicksand...... That wasn't like the Aints back then and it aint like them now....

I never visited feral country as my mum could never organise the tetanus shots in time for the games there.

i was 12 years old and it was the 1st time my folks let me go alone with friends, we caught the 12.10bus from cnr of doncaster road and high street. in fact we had to do an early runner from synagogue to get the bus.

as for that last game against stkilda, wasn't rex a clown behind the goals thinken he was the umpire, i think saints were an slim chance to sneak into the 5 that year but geelong got in from memory. that loss cost us the double chance. we beat geelong in elimination final at waverley and the lost 1st semi to collingwood.

i do believe we got revenge a year later in some fashion

I was there at this one. Distinctively remember a Fitzpatrick - a forward named Peter who used to play with us.

Great win this one.
