Andrew Maher sprayed Stevo on SEN on the way to work this morning. He was going on about Stevo being overweight and that it is unacceptable for an elite midfielder. (I for the record do agree to a point). I thought what is Maher doing so publicaly bagging his clubs Vice Captain. Then it dawned on me. Maher wanted to put Stevo under the pump (aka Wells last week) then Stevo will come out and play a blinder as Wells did after he was put under the pump by the media. All will be good in the world again. Well that is what I figure was his plan . Perhaps there was method to Mahers madness. Stevo, BOG 42 touches and kicks 2.2. Fev giving up the grog and the punt for 5 years, he may as well be dead. That is not living to me. The proof will be in the pudding. Have a great arvo. Go Blues!

BM

PS-This could me my last post as I have to drive over the Bolte on the way home. I drive a compact little buzz box, if i get sucked off the bridge i have really enjoyed my time on TC. Seriously scared........

Your PS made me laugh BM - although getting blown off the Bolte is not a laughing matter.

Maher doesn't mind sticking it into the players. Stevo is overweight and whether that's because of his injury or his life membership to KFC is unknown.

I'd like to think that he has more respect for his team-mates and club by venturing into junk food territory.

Of all the Carlton types int he media, FWIW I think Maher is perhaps the most balanced. He has a crack when he feels it's warranted but sticks up for them (and the fans) as well. I think he goes alright when it comes to the Blues.

I think the roof is going to blow off here at work - this wind is nuts.

Stevo should be ashamed of his body weight. Approx 1 year he had to get in slim line shape. ...........opportunity blown.

Andy's made a fair comment. Stevo would have to be at least 10 kgs heavier then he was when he was ruled out through injury this time last year. As a leader of the club and a potential captain he should be ashamed of himself and should be getting negative media attention.

I'll give him some slack, but only because he had a broken neck.

If he breaks his neck again, I say we piss him off.

Andy Maher is right!

There can be NO excuse for Stevens being FAT.

Judd has had a bad injury and come back to training later than Stevens but isn't carrying any extra kilo's. WHY, because he is disciplined and looks after himself.

How many times do you here that a player struggles during the season because of a poor pre season? Stevens should be back in the two's until he meets the absolute minimum fitness criteria.

Looks stiff in the neck and almost Gladstone Small like at times keeping his head very low to protect his neck I presume....

You have Stevens, Hadley and Judd all looking not right and I think I would rather we bring in some fully fit players like Bentick, Armfield and maybe ease Stevens and Hadley back through the Bullants.
The club are resting Judd during games but if you are carrying three not fully fit players I think its a mistake.....

I think you're wrong, I think he's just stating the bleeding obvious and what many of us have thought for quite sometime.

Whether Stevo is overweight at present or not is beside the point. His being on the field at all is a testament to his determination and dedication to the Mighty Blues. I have medically treated hundreds of patients with Spinal Fusions after disc prolapses and few if any have been as good physically as they were prior to the injury and the surgery. He may still be experiencing pain and abnormal sensations in the neck, arms, and particularly at the donor bone site over his hip. Most professionals would give hime at least a year or two to simply be able to carry out his normal work. The added pressures of playing football at such an elite level can only be guessed at. So ease up people.

So the guy likes the odd cheeseburger... meh.

Stevo will get to playing weight soon enough, he's got the kinda of body/metabolism that will almost always put him 3-4 kgs over his playing weight - but with his injury last year, then the pre-season injury... well, y'know.

Stevo will tear a new asshole this week anyway, bagged out or otherwise - a slow start to the season maybe but a long time out of football, he's finding his feet and place back in the team.

P.S Haven't heard from BlueMelanie yet - BM, have you passed the goalposts yet?! :P

Once again one of our most highly paid players turns up to play in less than ideal shape. Why was his weight issue not addressed 6 weeks ago ? I still believe that he is an important part of our midfield, but a month with the Bullants to get fit and find some form may be good for him and us in the long run. With Carrazzo and Scotland also struggling and Judd working his way back, our midfield is looking like a bit of a rabble at the moment. I am not a huge Bentick fan, but at the moment we need him, Simpson and Murphy to spend as much time on the ball as possible. I would also give Houlihan more time in there, because at the moment he is one of the few (along with Judd & Murphy) who could hit the back of a bus from 40 meters.

Eek! He looks like me, I might rock up and ask for a game too. I'll bring my mate Fat Albert to play in the other forward pocket.

If that is the case, he shouldn't be playing! Simple.
What example are we setting when we allow half fit players who can't tackle or chase to play at the elite level?
