Quality post Jez1966, and thanks for the summary.

Quote:
-WHITE JUMPER. He is going to tell teh AFL to get knotted and if he had his way we will not wear it again. THe AFL writes a letter to the Club mid week telling them what to wear otherwise a $100K fine (unflowering believable the AFL). We are the Navy Blues and have been for 150 years and not sure why we wore white against the saints

Wonder if this means there may be an opportunity for a redesign or change of colour of the jumper?

I love the fact we are getting rid of the white jumper! Although, I do see instances where it would be useful (mainly v Melbourne)... but otherwise, p!ss it off!!! As Sheehan said the other night, the AFL has gone over the top on this. The white shirt isn't going to frighten anyone.

It's the 'Y' generation and uninformed sad sacks. They want instant gratification or they lose interest and get the knives out.

The critical supporters need to get down on the boundary line fence for an AFL game and actually see the effort that goes into playing the game. It's not quite as easy as it looks when you are sitting in the lounge watching the 50 inch plasma after 10 beers.

Poor form!
I'd say I'm about the same age as you Cazz and have been to both games so far. Others like Frankie as well have been around long enough to make a call on what they believe in.
I believe some of us have played footy previously as well to appreciate when players are really putting in or just going throught the motions.

Exactly!

lazy generalisation ... i haven't even had a chance to plug in the new 50 inch plasma

Sorry.........It's the only thing I could think of to explain the rabid response after 2 rounds.

It appears that despite our pitiful efforts in tackling over the first two weeks, we still won't be playing our best tackler  .

I had a close look at the blue jumper the other night and its deff lighter than previous years. We should petition to get the dark one back. Its way more intimidating.

Respect your opinion Caz but I think people who were unhappy with our performance in first two rounds have a right to their opinion too and many of them were right with their opinion.

Firstly it is not just two weeks, but the first two weeks of the SEVENTH year of mediocrity. I know people have changed but at this point the results haven't and it is not unreasonable to have an expectation of something better after 7 years.

Also if highly paid professional footballers let their suppoters down with a lack of skill it is frustrating, if they let their supporters down with a lack of effort and intensity it is infuriating. To me that is what happened certainly in week one (against Richmond!!)and sometimes in week two.

You may have been happy with the players efforts Caz, and you are much closer to the club than me. I wasn't happy, and I am a reasonable supporter and have seen eight flags so I have less to complain about than young supporters who are lucky if they have seen one and are probably wondering what we have to be arrogant about.

If I was a young supporter (say 21) who started following the Blues seriously when I was 7 then we would have been diabolical for half my supporting life (and the time I was most aware). I'd be getting pretty annoyed. Any supporter under 30 probably has trouble remembering the 95 flag.

I accept we get beaten by better sides (not worse sides like Richmond) but I don't accept some of the efforts of the last few weeks. Houla's half hearted 'intercept' in front of Gherig, or a couple of the marking afforts agaisnt more desperate Tigers for instance.

I know Swanny has only been here 15 months or so, but his passion when talking about the jumper was great to hear.

I am possibly the #1 ticketholder in the Swann fan club. His performances in the media the last 3 weeks have been first class. Club couldn't be in better ahnds at that level I am convinced. The onfield stuff might take a while to turn around, but operationally we are light years ahead.

Maybe Swanny can don the jumper [the blue one would make him look slimmer] and plonk himself at CHF. :-D

I may be wrong, but I think CM was trying to take aim at those critics who can't provide constructive criticism or temper their language when hysterical melodromatic frenzied rantings make such "interesting" posts.

There have been many many posters who question and criticise where the club is at in a reasoned and rational way.

I might be wrong though.

Dick in charge of the AFL would be like Moscow during the 1980 Olympics. eg opening the wind tunnel to the stadium when a Soviet was about to throw a javelin and closing it when the American stepped up etc. Good times.

I haven't seen quite as many premierships as you, Gerry, but I'm not far off. The lack of desperation worries me too, and I'm not aiming this comment at the kids in the team. However, the future is mainly with the younger players and we shouldn't forget that it takes some years to develop them. Swanny's comments are spot on. In earlier times we put younger players in the Reserves to learn the "Carlton way" of doing things. Other clubs did the same - remember Michael Tuck played about 50 ganes in the Hawthorn twos before getting a senior gig.
