Was thinking about what we could do to our forward structure to become more potent against the Bombers and think that we need to think outside of the square a bit. This is what I came up with and how I'd love to see us line up at the start of the game:

- Kreuzer and Hampson both playing in the goalsquare - two tall athletic players. Would think that they would want either Michael or Fletcher on Fevola, which means that Ryder would have to go back for one of those two. Nullifies any run Ryder provides off half back and I'd also back one of our guys outmarking him one on one.

- Betts, Judd and Houlihan all crumbing the feet of these two guys. Gives us some pace and classy finishing. Also provides other targets - Judd and Houlihan are both quite good overhead and will also hopefully help us keep the ball in the forward line. We must nullify their most effective rebounder - take them deep and make them accountable.

- Fisher to float around the forwardline - can be third up into the contest - maybe start about 30 metres out from goal and move more side to side than really up the ground as his major strength is marking when coming from the side of the pack. If we are having trouble moving the ball quickly through the corridor, give him license to move up to the wing to provide the link target.

- Start Fev at centre half forward. He's going to be dangerous even if he is marking the ball at 50-55. At the first few centre bounces, let him run into the centre square and make some body contact. Get him involved early and some of his actions will get the team up and about. Can switch with Fisher. If Fletcher plays on him, dont let him run off and provide rebound.

This gives us multiple options and would really stretch the Essendon* backline. Key factors - kick to multiple targets, have players to stay on the ground and crumb and keep the ball locked in the forward line or at least slow the rebound process down. Dont let them stream through the middle.

Thoughts?

I have noticed a few times in round 1 and yesterday, that Fletcher appears to be playing more forward this season.

I can't be sure tho.

TTD I would throw someone into the F50 who has a defensive side and can keep the ball in. Gibbs forward instead of Houlihan. Put Houla in the midfield.

I had high hopes for Edwards after seeing him do well in the practice match at Prences Park, but he hasnt seemed to deliver so far... Is it time to drop him or give him one more go againstthe Bummers ?

Seems like the likely player to get dropped for Kreuzer - think he's shown enough positives to get excited about, but needs to work on defensive side of his game and maybe increasing his endurance. Some of his chases aren't fantastic, but showed a great pair of hands, good leading and a decent kick for goal.
