I am not even sure if this post belongs in here... and I seem to recall I did a Poll a year or so ago about a similar topic - but since then I have forgotten the results, and I have also turned 30 - well on with it!

At what age should a Carlton supporter be hanging up the playing jumper and looking at an alternative to supporter wear? Is there a certain cut-off age in your own mind when you move onto other football fashion wear?

Ever since 1993 when I started to take a keen interest in Carlton, I have worn the Carlton playing strip to every game and I am currently on my third jumper (first was in 1994, #8 - Troy Bond). After that was the famous #43 for Kouta and presently, #12 in the memory of Matthew Lappin...

But now I find myself at 30 years of age, and I am wondering whether to upgrade to the new playing strip or perhaps venture off in another direction and purchase a club polo shirt or jacket...

Feedback would be appreciated, currently I have one way to dress for the football - it's the only way I've known, but I do not want to get to a stage where I am re-living my youth if that makes sense...

And please, dont mention the old duffle coats! :)

You should get a duffle coat to wear to the footy...

Im 32 and I still wear my 11 jumper cause of the flying doormat (who I only saw play in the flesh about 5 times!)

I think people thought I was a freak because I liked French.

so in summing it up...I dont reckon there is a cut off age.

But I am not very mature.

Carlton's Premium Summer Tank top is a must have for anyone who wants Carlton to build a dynasty.

Footy jumpers are the staple of the football supporter. Polo shirts and the like look bourgeois, those sports jackets and puffy jackets should only be made for Richmond and Collingwood (because I can picture them prancing around commission housing projects proudly with those sports jackets on).

Long sleeve normal shirt if it's cold, Carlton guernsey on top - and duffel's are awesome. A throwback to the 70s-80s - can be worn by people of any age.

I've got one signed by Kenny Hunter, I think it was made in the very early 80s, around the same time I was born... will have to rip it out of the closet soon for the night games coming up.

IMO though, stick with the guernsey.

its really to each his own.

your support of the club isnt childish or immature if you wear a jumper. its an extension of what youve been wearing and been comfortable to wear to the footy for a number of years. in a way its tradition, its routine, its how you show your love of the club on match day.

there is probably a distinction that can be made between a 30 year old wearing a jumper that is a couple years old or 'retro' and a 30 year old wearing the brand spanking new '08 model, but really, who has the right to pass judgement? no one should.

continue wearing the navy blue jumper, you obviously enjoy going to the games wearing it.

i think we as a club are in the fortunate position of being owners of one of the greatest sporting kits, guernseys, match jumpers, in any sport the world over. why shouldnt we wear it with pride?

It's a shame they're not as fashionable as soccer tops.

yeah, sometimes when I see a fat, bald bloke with sunburn and a soccer top, I do a double take just to make sure I haven't stumbled on to a catwalk in Milan.

My theory is............If your older than about 20 (lets say 22 to be generous) and you are still wearing a footy jumper to the football you are a loser!!!!!!!! no doubt about it you need to grow up and realise you dont play for the team and dont need the jumper, a hat is ok, a scarf......no probs, a monogramed t-shirt etc.......fine, but club jumper no sireee.

If you werar the sleeveless jumper with no T-shirt underneath then you need to be committed.............and if you go the sleeveless jumper on cold days or night games then not only must you be commited but you should be arrested by the fashion police and sentenced for hard labour

And for the record dont get me started on cheer squads.............the biggest bunch of in-bred losers who inspire nobody except for other losers with their pathetic chants, and abusing opposition fullbacks, and waste their weeknights making crappy banners that the players dont care about. The sad thing about cheer squads is they think they are a vital part of the team

Complete bollocks!!!

The club is all about the jumper, not polo shirts or flower tank tops.

Wera the jumper and wear it with pride!

(I still wear my AVCO tracksuit with the top zipped right up and my footy boots even when I'm watching on TV)

No sparky blue, I was wearing the cashmere sweater, the tweed jacket with patches on the elbows and the chinos and cravate. I was looking very daper!!

I dont kid myself that i play for my beloved team and I dont need to dress up in fancy dress style to show my devotion to my club.

Why stop at wearing the jumper...........may as well wear the shorts too and socks and footy boots, you never know when the team may be struck by injuries and call you up as a last minute emergency, in fact you should strap your shoulders and wrists jsut to be on safe side.

So you don't want to wear one yourself headcutter, do we really need the tirade of abuse for someone who does?

You're very harsh on the cheer squads too.

Everyone expresses their support of the team in their own way, if thats by wearing a replica jumper then good on them. If its spending their own time during the week making a banner....its their time to 'waste' so what difference does it make to you?

I went through the same dilema in my 20's Sparky. Some weeks I'd wear it, others not....I don't wear it anymore and the last time I wore it was maybe 5-6 years ago, but that was my decision, if you decide to keep wearing it then good for you.

Don't forget Headcutter, it is important and almost compulsory to strap your ankles as well, just ask Fraser Brown before the 1995 Grand Final...

In my opinion, this is the problem with society today.

Who makes up the rules? Who says yes he can, no he can not??

If he is comfortable, with himself, wear the jumper. Does it really matter?

If he was wearing a lace up jumper, he would possibly be a trend setter!

In society, we are told by all and sundry what to wear, look, say and feel!

It is time for Anarchy! 8)

If a beer gut makes it almost impossible to breath in the slimmer style guernseys, then it probably isn't a great idea to wear to the games. Otherwise, get the guernsey on, get a brew into ya and rock on.
