So Saddington, with his experience as a defender who can't defend, is going to help Bower develop by taking his place in the side.
I can see how that works...

Wasn't KK's idea that Saddo play alongside Bower, not instead of him?
And you accuse other people of replying to theads without reading them first...

So we drop Jamison then? He's twice the defender Saddington is already so that would be stupid.
Or Thornton? Not only is Thornton is better defender than Saddo he's got experience too so that would be stupid as well.
Or Waite? Dropping one of our best players for Saddo would be insanity.
Who would you drop instead of Bower???
Having five tall defenders in your 22 is just madness so don't even suggest that you'd drop one of the mids. Playing Saddo, when there's no injuries, would be the very height of stupidity and would cost one of our two developing defenders a spot in the side.
That's the way mate, don't admit you made a mistake, just go on the attack...
Are we talking about players that won't play this week or "players that should never play for the Mighty Blues again"?
If we're talking about this week, I think Saddo only has an outside chance of being selected vs St Kilda. But if he does - who says Bower, Jamo or Waite have to be dropped for him to come in?! If the 3 talls we had out last week don't come up, maybe Saddo will come in for Hartlett? Maybe he'll play forward and give us a bit of size and experience down there? Or maybe he'll play in defence so that Waite or Carlos (or T-Bird?) can go forward? Look, these are just hypotheticals, and they are not scenarios that particularly excite me either. Saddo isn't in my best 22. I'm just saying that we don’t know what circumstances will be thrown at us as the year unfolds, and Ratten may have specific roles in certain games for Saddo (and Banno and Wiggo etc).
I'm not going to repeat myself by explaining again in this thread why I think playing the likes of Saddo from time to time doesn't automatically equate to neglecting the development of our kids.
And don’t forget, just because a kid is on an AFL list doesn't mean he's ready to play AFL...
I don't know how you could possibly start listing players in our squad (of only 40 blokes) that should "never play for Carlton again" when there is still 21 games left to play. Anything could happen in the next 21 weeks, including injuries...
