All summer I have witnessed people on here taking the absolute piss out of Richmond. They have been saying stuff like "Richmond are in the box seat for this" or "Richmond are in the box seat for that". And what exactly were we celebrating? Getting a player that they wanted (Judd). The fact that we got the number 1 pick despite them being last (as pro tanking as I am, I still would not gloat about this easily, it is not exactly an achievement). I think in the end a lot of you were trying to make yourselves feel good about Carlton by taking excitement and happiness at Richmond's misery.

Well on Thursday night Richmond were in the box seat.... to give us a much needed reality check. We should not be comparing ourselves to Richmond. They might do alright this year with a few wins but won't be in the top four anytime soon. We should be comparing ourselves with Geelong. We should be looking at what Geelong have, the structure they have in place, the types of players they have and how they play. Not gloating about beating a Richmond allegedley in the box seat, because a lot of you look like idiots now.

Bloody hell dude, give our guys a chance, Its only round 1. Despite losing the game, They played really well in the 1st half, build ups to goal were good and they were playing well as a team.

So what if we're taking the piss on Richmond? Richmond will be in the box seat for some time to come.

I kinda share the same view. I don't understand how so many people on this devote so much time to bagging other clubs when we have been nothing but rubbish over 6 years.

As supporters why cant we all shut the hell up, and go about it on an orderly manner and when we reach the pinnacle, then stick the boots in.

We were once a mighty a club and no doubt we will be back up there but as a club we have lost respect, and we need to earn it back.

We all know who will have the last laugh

The day I'm not 'allowed' to take the piss out of Richmond, is the day I give up following this league.

Jeez, stop taking things so seriously. We're at the start of a long road back, but surely we're still allowed to have some fun at the expense of a Richmond who, let's face it, will still finish towards the arse-end of the ladder this year.

KB's insistence that the tiggers were in the box seat was, is and will continue to be one of the funniest episodes in VFL/AFL history.

I don't mind the good old footy bantar between mates, and taking pot shots here and there. I cop it on the chin and move on, its heads down bums up and i know we will have the last laugh and it will be ever so sweat.

But the war is not between us and them. They're flowered, they'll be hanging around 5th-10th for the next decade. The war is going to be between us and Geelong, us and Collingwood, us and Hawthorn, etc, because they will be the ones between us and premiership 17 in three years.

losing to Richmond is not a reality check. they're the worst team in the league.
If people thought we could get near Geelong or St Kilda or West Coast of Hawthorn. Thats the reality check.
Richmond is shite. And so are the Bulldogs, who we fell over the line against in the practice game at PP. and so is Carlton.

Because it's premature to do so.

For all we know Richmond might finish 9th? So losing to them in Round 1 may not be such a bad result.

everyone on here knows that Ninthmon are not going anywhere but they did 2 things on Thursday night that we should take note of ..
1. they worked harder than us at winning the ball and running for each other
2. they used the corridor much better than we did

Geelong showed on Thursday night how hard they run for each other through the corridor

i saw very little running through the corridor on Thursday night and certainly not enough running hard from back to front to support and provide options

if we can take these two aspects on as we develop we will be a much much better team

okay so now wee only mention carlton and geelong, and we only compare ourselves to geelong (unless geelong stumble, then whoever replaces them) but never, never have a crack at another club in fun 'cos this is business, this is so so serious mum, this is all bullshit.

Its a @#$%&! game of football, it hurts, its glorious and like everything else, we have nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with the results, we just enjoy the ride - or pretend an overinflated sense of our own omnipotent importance about things that we influence not at all.

Oh and its @#$%&! Richmond, they deserve all the shit we can give 'em. And even then its a thimble compared to what they give themselves!

Richmond are garbage.....not future at all......Wallace and Miller are taking them on a road to nowhere.....losing to them will help us more in the long run than the win will do for them....

it is not appropriate to take the piss out of richmond.

puh-leeease. taking the piss out of opposition clubs is a part of football. we all cop plenty so we have every right to dish it out as much as possible. who gives a continental if they have the last laugh for the moment.

we have plenty of inadequacies that get pointed out to us, so @#$%&! them. score points wherever possible and have a @#$%&! laugh.

would it be inappropriate to take the piss out of you Barack?

This game in reality is a game of inches...

Brisbane. Who would have predicted after 2004 that they would tumble how they did?

Our failure was a combination of poor list management and we know what else, we don't need to go there again.

We have a good young bunch to work with. Forget 2002,03,04,05.... We were treading water and trying to sustain and restrict. Mere damage control.

The only quality long term prospect we snaffled was Scotto. Remember David Clarke, Steve Kenna, Ricky Mott, Daniel Harford, Teague, Morrell and co. Respect them as such, for achieving what we ALL would have loved too. Representing our club.

But they were all stop go measures, no disrespect to them.

It is all about the now. 2006 was when we started to go forward as a club. No draft restrictions, it was all about the kids. We are only 45 games in from there. We now have raw talent to burn.... RAW...Talent..

It still needs to nurture and prosper. I see this season panning out similar to 2004. But with more vitality, more direction, more courage, determination and solidarity. There will be no huge BLOW outs. This team is past that. We are developing a list to get us in the upper echelon of football society. Be patient and enjoy the game of football. We love the club, I know it hurts, at times. But as a wise man once said, "The Ox is slow but the earth is patient"
Seriously, look at what we have ahead of us. Enjoy the ride...
