Ok, keep in mind this was just reported on SEN :garthp:

"Apparently" Judd, through his manager Paul Connors has refused to do a 10 minute interview with Ch 10 on the eve on our Round 1 clash, citing that he wants to focus on his first game in the Navy Blue.

The AFL are looking to contact Judd for more specifics regarding why, as an AFL captain - he would refuse to give an interview, and why his answer is being relayed through his manager, and not the football club. The are of the belief that he should have a more reasonable excuse for not being available.

Dunno much more about it, or the validity of the claim - just thought I'd share what I've heard. If it was KB reporting I wouldn't waste my 2 minutes.

Onya Juddy, you tell Channel 10 that it they broadcast the Malaysian GP LIVE on Sunday evening, instead of forcing the fans to wait for a 5+ hour delay then you will do their interview.

5+ hour delay. Can you believe that! For a Formula 1 Grand Prix.

I mean, what does Ten think this is, AFL football.

It was also reported on the 3AW news.

But I thought I heard the AFL would not take it any further (it was like 6 am when I heard it so I could be mistaken).

and here: AFL pressures Judd to do TV interview

Quote:
Other than communicating in strong terms that the AFL was unhappy with the rejection to one of its official broadcasters, McLachlan said the league was unprepared to take further action.

"We're looking for the goodwill of the players rather than us threatening anything," McLachlan said.

I'm sure Juddy will do an interview at some point in the season with them.

All that would happen now is questions about Fev, tanking and Pratt's court case which have been gone over a thousand times.

It's his first game as captain at a new club, fair enough he wants to focus on it solely, particularly considering his focus this week hasn't been what it should.

Ok, so even though there is nothing explicitly written in any contracts or rules, the AFL still sees fit to pressure Judd into doing something that might compromise his debut.

Well that's just great (NOT).

Maybe it was the content of the interview that was more of an issue than the interview itself. i.e if the questions was centered of the drug issues of WCE, when and why he wanted to move to melb, Pratts price fixing and Judds involvment with Visy, Carlton tanking issues etc.
Just looking at reasons why he wouldn't do an interview with Ten, because I would like to see one, but only if the dirt is left out of it. maybe Judd feels the same :?

Watch the umpires butcher him on Thursday night. They have ways of taking action.

Just another reason why selecting Judd as captain was a good choice. The club comes first. Not some insignificant 10 minute interview with a broadcaster. Well done Juddy. RESPECT!!!!!

Neil Mitchell's been having a shot at Judd, Fev and Pratt this morning  .

Must be a slow day for the whinging toffs on 'the peninsula'.

I reckon as far as AFL club captains go, Judd's done more than his fair share. How many hours of interviews have all the other captains done COMBINED since October? I'll bet Juddy beats the lot.

If he was struting around from one interview to the next I'm sure we'd have Mitchell bagging him for being the 'rock star' he said he didn't want to be  .

He knows they'll ask about Fev and he doesn't want to have to deal with it. Spose he wants to stay focused and not have to think about ALL this crap of late. I hate hate hate the media, they can't help themselves, so I don't care.

JUDD is a real SNOB isn't he? He is captain of the club and should do interviews to promote the club.

I posted in the Talking Players section yesterday how I saw him reject photo opportunities from a couple of Carlton fans at Lorne on Saturday.

If there was a big line up of fans waiting for a photo I could understand but I only saw two people wish him the best and asked for a photo and he declined.

Does JUDD think he is royalty and above averyone else?

We are paying him millions so I hope he delivers on and off the field.

Woah...ease up there tiger.

I think Juddy just wants to find his feet at Carlton first. First and foremost, he wants to show that he is serious about the gig at Carlton. From what I can see, he is genuinely trying to focus on his footy first. Everything else is secondary at this stage. He wants to get his body right and play the game he knows he can play.

Once he is settled, I have no doubt he will do the usual mingling, interviews etc. Let him find his feet first. Give him a bit of space and let him play footy first. That's what he is at the Carlton Football Club primarily for.

I think that Chris needs to get a grip on it and realise that Melbourne is not Perth - here he is only a small g god rather than a capital G one

The media like to ask controversial questions and ignore the football so I'm happy for him to decline. I'm also not terribly upset if he declines photo requests when he's out living his life, it's his choice AFAIC.

Correct. You might start asking questions if he was refusing photos at a Carlton family but who gives a flower if he is refusing on his weekend off.
