Through work I have been able to get a copy of the AFL magazine that is going in tomorrow's paper.

One of the highlights for me as a Blues supporter is in the middle pages where the 'expert' panel of footy writers are asked, which coach would they like to be.

Except for a small handful, all of them said Ratts, because of AWWWW JUDD.

Some of the handful stated Dean Bailey, because the expectation on the Dees is rock bottom - how funny is that Biff?

That's certainly no surprise to hear that.
IMHO, the best part about it is that Voss now looks like a dick after arrogantly dismissing us last year.
I'd prefer to have Ratten anyway.

Strange coment about Bailey's job though.
The only reason why the expectations are low is because so are the playing stocks. Similar to 9thmond.

Hard to get excited about any job that has limited prospects for the future.

Where are you?....you must be able to get the HS?

We've always been able to buy it....no matter where we lived in Australia.

it is fair enough for us to be put low down, afterall we have a less then average backline and some of our disposal skills aren't yet up to standard either

Essendon* are in worse shape now then we were a few years ago. (list wise, the draft picks probly put us behind them.)

Their spline is set to retire.

Their recent draft picks have been largely dissapointing.

The have an inexperienced coach leading a club that demands success.

They are rooted.

They won't see finals for at least 5 years.

As far as I see things Essendon* are one of about only about 4 or 5 teams in the competition that a clearly bottoming out (meaning there is alot of improving teams that will push them further down) Just sit back, grab some popcorn, and watch them fall to pieces.

For what its worth I dont want them to win the wodden spoon/number 1 pick.... I hope they finish 9th. For eternity.

As you were....

I reckon Ratts has some pressure on him. Don't kow whether I'd be saying he's got the best job just yet. For him to succeed we'll have to get very close to the 8 and lose a few by under 10pts. I reckon that would be a natural progression once you include Judd, Stevens, Hadley along with the growth of all the young fellas.

Ratts' record in 0/6 and the pre season didn't rock my world in terms of gameplan. It's early and lots of things could/will change.

I just hope we don't over posses like we've seen recently.

Don't forget that Jon Anderson is rating us in the Mag......and would not know.....all he knows is Geelong.

He doesn't even mention Jamison in the backline....or Hampson in the ruck....not a word.

Nice of Mike Sheehan to throw in another tanking reference though (both in the mag, AND in the paper). In case people have forgotten :garthp:

I thought his reference was a little bit more subtle than Caro's.

He said that we may have but will never know.

She said that we categorically did!

Hyundai would enjoy seeing their logo on Chris Judd's chest on the front cover.

That's the power of Judd. He's pretty much paid for his 08 season before he's even stepped onto the park.

I think I have would preferred the shot with Judd surrounded by our youth brigade of Smurph, GIBBS, Carrazzo, Simmo, Kreuzer, Hammer.

Very noice!

Geez, we came 15th after a shit 5 years. I actually thought the article was very positive, and fair. Until the reference to tanking I was thinking one of our mob wrote the article.

Fair assessment of where we're at!

As for our gameplan, we WILL overpossess the ball all year - as Hawthorn did 2 years ago. Only next year, everything will fall into place. We will choose better options as the decision making improves, our skills will improve with this the key focus at training.

Mark my words, we will be a very good side next year. There will be an improvement this year, but not without an abbudance of frustration to the spectator as kicks are sprayed, and hospital passes are given to runners on their way past.

we've been getting the media preseason pump up for years. 04' it was the saviour in Stevens, 05' it was the dynamic duo of Fev and Lance with Stevo hitting them lace out, 06' was a revitialised Kouta and the wonder kid Murphy, 07' was the revitalised Lance and the coming together of 2 #1 picks. The stats read that every journo who has said we're turning the corner has ended with a shite load of egg on their face, so you can't blame them for being wary of summer excitement.
