Yeah, look it'd be great to keep all the old stands and knock down the White Elephant Stand for the new facilities but it AINT gonna happen.
The club HAS TO HAVE new facilities so unfortunately somethings must go. We need to accept it and just DO it.

I'm with you there, but something has to give I guess.

Hopefully they break it up and sell bits to the public - I'd love to have a small piece of the heatley on my desk - to remind me of how the thing used to rock during those last quarter blitzes.

I LOVE the Gardiner stand. I sat there for nearly 15 years before the club made us move to the Legends stand which was a disaster.

I can remember getting there to watch the reserves as a 8 or 9 yr old and eating my rolls and reading the record before the big game which I knew we would nearly always win.

I can remember my dad buying the peanuts off the peanut man for 50 cents a bag and the shells crunching under my feet as I ran towards the ground to celebrate another victory.

I can remember watching the old manual scroreboard ticking over and the goings on of the mass of people on the hill below it. One of my fondest memories was running off and sitting near the field with Mark Bairstow and Andrew Bews when they were injured and probably annoying the hell out of them. But they were happy to talk to a little shit of a kid all day.

I can remember all the past greats walking behind me up the back of the stand on their way to and from the social club and standing on my seat to give them a pat on the back.

I can remember a man who came dressed in his navy blue suit every single week. Boy he was passionate and I used to think he was slightly crazy. But when he stomped his foot on the hard wooden floor to start the old Carlton chant, geez the rest of the stand followed, and ROCKED!

Those were the days, great times and memories that I will cherish forever.

here is a link to the first redevelopment plans submitted before the club had discovered that the gardner stand had been heritage listed.

What happened to demolishing the Pratt Stand to build the Fencing Centre? :? 8)

I still don't like the fact we're knocking down the Social Club/Harris Stand to build the new training facilities.

I can't see any logic in keeping the Pratt Stand when it's dank and of no use if you don't play games at PP. It's uglier than the Harris Stand and should be knocked down because it was previously known as the Hawthorn Stand. The Social Club still looks terrific and has a history, so it should have been kept and refurbished like it was in the original plans. The new facilties would look better if they ran along the wing and joined up with the old Social Club.

The Carlton shop has just been refurbished and it will also go.

You can't stop progress.

The fencing centre will now be built at Arden street. Due to the fact that the gardner stand has heritage listing and can not be demolished, the club had decided against it demolishing the Pratt as it has plans with playing bullants and collingwoods VFL games at PP.

Also with the new development the club will build a bar/function room with a foyer that over looks the ground. A nice little earn when you think the pies VFL along with several bullants games to be played at PP.

Why don't the pies VFL team play at the "elite" training facilities they already have? I thought Lexus centre was "elite"?

I've been told the Storm will be moving into the Gardiner Stand, presumably until their contract at PP finishes and their new ground is built.

They are planning to use olympic park as a new site for athletics victoria is going to be built at albert park. But thats no certainty.

plus they have no ground that can hold a VFL match.

good move by our club to have them play at PP, they use our facilities, drink up at the bar and we pocket the cash.

But we don't mind losing the seats in the Heatley and Harris Stands? ;)

You could fit the crowd who attend a VFL game in the Legends Stand, Gardiner and Heroes stands. 8)

Not that anyone uses that white elephant.

The Social Club should stay.

Is it too late to build Smorgy World?

When you look at the alternative plans, losing the Heatley and Harris stnd has substituted for the losss of the Gardiner and Pratt (Hawthorn) stand.

Tough call.

Personally I liked the original plan. But if heritage Victoria/Australia gets in the way then so be it.

Is there a new bar as good as historic as the Social Club in the new development?

http://www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/info.cfm?top=81&pg=3960

Think of how much they'll drink if they see pictures of Carlton greats all over the place and the name George Harris on the stand. 8)

The mongrels will sit near where Magro collected Jezza.

Whereabouts did that clash happen at PP? :?

It isn't clear.

AFAIK it happened pretty much on the wing on the Pratt stand side.

Geez, so they have an elite training facility without a football ground they can play footy on. That is like Channel 9 and Channel 10 joining up to win the footy rights and paying 50/50 for those rights, then letting Channel 10 do all the finals in exchange for Brownlow night.
