Has anyone seen the thread on CSC about these two, is reads Carlos is not rated and out of favour.
Any comment?
Especially Caz and Sinbad, the men in the know.

If true it's up to Carlos to prove the critics wrong.

I thought that that was what he had being doing with games and goals last year.

A similar rumour was posted on here a while back - around the time of the first NAB Cup match. Though Greg Swann on SEN at the time said he was recovering from a shoulder injury. Really wouldn't read too much into it.

If anything, they are not a direct swap for each other anyway. Setanta is FB, CHB or CHF option - Bower is none of those, a HBF. Both could co-exist in the side and dont see them as mutually exclusive.

On the positive side, its nice to see some competition for defensive spots when you include Thornton, Jamison and Waite. Defence is still developing but hopefully it will come on in leaps and bounds this year.

as posted previously, not sure the coach rates the big irishmen and less importantly, neither do I

I'd give Carlos a gig over Thornton anyday.
Carlos, Jamison, Waite + backup from Scotland, Walker, Bower, Pfeiffer, Anderson, Austin etc.

Thornton needs to take his game up a notch or two and start to lead our young defence or get surpassed by the likes of Bower, Jamison, Austin.

Bower has it all to do before he surpasses anybody.

If it was out of Setanta and Jamison i would still go with Setanta. Nothing against Jamison. JUst my choice if it was out of the two.

Maybe they are just trying to spark setanta into lifting another cog or perhaps is just a rubbish rumour.

Looking forward to watching him play tomorrow.

Read the training reports, it was just reported tonight that Setanta lost 15kg through sickness while in Ireland over summer. If this is true he is going to struggle to have any impact at all this year regardless of what we or the coaches think of him. I think a lot of people here and elesewhere have added one and one and got twenty three.

If he has lost 15kg over a summer then it is at least a one year recovery for him.

Absolute rubbish thread. Setanta isn't out of favour. His body isnt quite up to it yet. He'll be back in the team soon enough, and improving at an exponential rate,

15kg  That's one really bad curry too many. What was wrong with him?

Oh my dear god!

I clearly know NOTHING about football then, cause i see Setanta as a fantastic athlete who is developing very well!

But then again, Livo was a gun!

SB, it is well known that you do not like Setanta, but saying that Livo should have been kept on the list instead of Setanta blows your cred out the window.

Livo was great in a lot of ways but injuries finished him off and also ruined the beginning of his career. The same thing might happen to Setanta with injuries, (hopefully not) but he has shown much MUCH more than Livo did in senior games for our club.

After reading this thread and a similar ones on other forums, I made a couple of calls and I believe that I got to the crux of the matter. I reckon my source is pretty close to the mark. ;-)

Carlos has a similar affliction to Ross River Fever which wasn't detected till mid December. He spent time with his family over Xmas with the aim to fatten him up somewhat, but couldn't keep his food down. He then came back early to visit the nutritionilist and to seek specialist advice because the Irish doctors have little or no experience in tropical diseases. He was diagnosed and put on a strict diet and a modified program to try and retain his muscle ratio, even though he didn't have skinfold problems.

Unfortunately he had already lost about 16 kgs when they nutted out what he has. He has since put about 5 kgs back on but has been further setback by straining a minor ligament in his shoulder, which stopped him doing contesting work at training. Although under his playing weight and still suffering from the shoulder strain, he had a short run in the South Africa match to test him out. Unfortunately he fatigued very quickly and it was thought best to nurse him through the rest of the preseason until he gets his strength back.

His shoulder apparently is about 80% now but he is expected to be about 3 weeks getting back to a reasonable level of fitness. He will probably need a couple of runs in the magoos before they would risk him anyway.

On the subject of whether he is rated by the Coaching staff and particularly Ratts, my contact fell about laughing when I enquired. His exact words to me were "We are so undersized down back and lack mongrel and genuine rebounders, Santy is no longer seen as a project, but one of our key defenders. Ratts wanted to try him out in a couple of roles last year to fast track his education. As soon as he is up to speed he will come straight in because he is so flexible. The Cocka just loves his passion and wishes some of it would rub off on on some of the laconic flowers we got on the list"

I then asked about possible conflicts between the Carlton coaches and the Bullants coaching panel. All he would say is that they are still working through the pieces of the relationship, but he assured me that Preston will do as they are told, cause we are paying their way. Certain players will be played in the role that Ratts wants them played in. :-D

We'll all have to wait and see, but I am heartened by this news as I rate Santy very highly.

BTW, a quick report on the other injuries: Zacky a medial strain - 3-4 weeks off full training. AB still has groin pain. He can run but squatting and bending over is a problem. Thinks 2-3 . Benji a Quad strain - 2-3 as well. Didn't know what was wrong with Joey. :?

Brilliant post Brizzy. Thanks for sharing that information. Your enthusiasm for the Blues and contribution to TC is part of the reason this site is so great.
