New site seems up and running now along the lines of the AFL.com site.

Good coverage for the Bluseum and Mike & Dan, but seems slow. Is anyone else having problems?

Those green circles took a long time to go away, 4Mbit connection and all.

I have got bigpond broadband - its not slow at all and all other sites load quick as.

I just timed how long it took the new CFC page - 23.53mins till all the circles went away. To be fair it was probably slightly usable at 18 mins, but still its a friggin joke - exact same deal with the AFL website.

Does anyone know of an avenue where the AFL.com can be contacted or something?

The site's slow as a wet week, froze my browser for more than a minute, and then came up with some "unresponsive script" shite.

Sorry to say, not good.

Actually, maybe it's not the Club's site. I couldn't tell amongst all the ads.

It is absolute shit

loading times appalling, too much focus on animation

Much better ways to display content

I have always thought that it was very slow to load and that is still the case.

I enjoyed the Stats Central section. It shows Cain Ackland 2nd for Marks

I actually had lunch last week with someone who is high up in this whole arrangement, and we discussed this very issue.

Bigpond secured the rights to website content for 5 years when all the previous deals (including 7, 10 and Foxtel) were negotiated. This is therefore the second year of that deal.

Bigpond looked to outsource the content. The problems they had previously with Sportal led them to choose a company in Sydney (whose name escapes me). Given this company had no knowledge of football, and no football journos, Bigpond eventually realised that it had a massive problem on its hands. This was in Nov / Dec of 2006.

Bigpond eventually engaged Media Giants to take care of the content, about 2 months before the start of 2007 season. Media Giants is run by ex-Age sports journo Nick Place, and Michael Roberts, a football historian, who has edited 7 or 8 club magazines over the years, amongst other ventures. Both are footy tragics, and have extensive footy knowledge and contacts.

Media Giants at the outset made it clear to Bigpond that its area of expertise was in providing content, not the techincal operation and design of the sites. The technical operation is looked after by another organisation.

The contract involved AFL and all club websites, including Essendon*'s, although the 'official' Essendon* website is essendonfc.com.au. This is actually due to a sponsor conflict (Bigpond v 3), and it may be that if / when this conflict no longer exists, that Essendon* would come back into the 'fold'.

Anyone looked at the player profiles recently, looks like they haven't been updated for a number of years, Setanta is listed as having played one game and various others seem to have very old stats.

So is that Pfizer ad trying to say we're going top root the tigers in round one?

Also if you go to a story the navigation goes all screwy...I couldn't even find a "home" button to get vback...keep hitting back, back, back...

a "fundamental" gone wrong

The home button is the blank space to the right of the Carltonfc.com.au banner.

Hopefully it's just teething problems and they move the link back to it's rightful place underneath that banner.

What happened to the link to the AFL site that used to be there? :?

At least they've retained the excellent links to Bigpond Sport. :garthp:

Has anyone else with a mac found that they have no content appearing - I've contacted bigpond who are responsible and they replied that there content is windows media player based and they won't support the mac environment.

I would reply to your post markn but I can't see it - was it written on a mac?

Yeah nah, crap joke.

I'm relying on the old 'teething problems' explanation for some of the ghosts in the machine. Those Vista spinning wheels of <insert> really piss me off.

Bet yeah, a horrid design all up. I pine for the version from a few versions ago which was pretty straight up and uncomplicated.

OK....I've just clicked on it for the first time in the new format....where's the link to the Blueseum?

The Home page is very boring with no instant appeal....WTF?

...and why isn't it full screen?

More ads than a free newspaper.
