1. Need a goal to win after the siren, set shot 50m out straight in front. Who would you prefer had the ball?
GIBBS

2. Same deal, need a goal to win after the siren but marked by the point post. Who would you rather take the shot?
EITHER

3. Grand final, scores even, need the next clearance, can only have one of them in the centre square for the bounce, who would you rather?
MURPHY

4. Ball gets bombed into the forward 50 in the dying seconds, need a pack mark/speccy? Who would be better suited?
GIBBS

5. Jimmy Bartel is absolutely killing us, need murph or gibbs to tag and shut him down, who takes the job? (choose who would be the better tagger not who you would rather play free)
GIBBS but only because he is more suited to bartel. it would be murphy if the player was say cousins or b.harvey.

In his first season and the start of his second Murphy made great decisions and kicked well. Even his one in five floaters found a target. His decision making was so good that if you look at those early games we normally had a shot at goal within five kicks after murphy touched it. He touched it a fair bit to.

Everything Gibbs dies oozes class but at the moment he hasnt found the ball as much as Murph.

Both stars of the future.

A the moment Gibbs on a high and Murph having a bit of a downer.

bit unfair to compare them this way, slightly different players who are both vital to our future, but for the sake of discussion:

can we have a sixth question to even things up :-D

Q6. We are 99 points up in the grand final against Collingwood, Judd has gibbs and murphy running free inside 50, who should he pass to?

yes it is a trick question

or is that collingwood are going to be anywhere near a grand final in the coming years,

At the moment you would have to pick Murph for clearances, etc.
Bit early to compare Gibbs to Murphy because he has only had one year in the game and most of that was played under Pagan.

Can't wait to see how Gibbs does this year under Ratten since he has bulked up.
Should be awesome!

Murphy has two seasons under Pagan, so he should be further behind.

It's interesting that Gibbs has had more far votes in these questions, but would you actually say Gibbs is a better player?

I'd say he's classier, has better vision, better decision making, more consistent footskills, and probably not that far behind in strength. Remember that Murph's 20 (I think) and Gibbs is 18.

BUT - is Gibbs a more influential player? Currently, no.

Interesting to see what becomes of both. And although they may be subject to comparisons, they are different players.

I'd love to know what cons you are referring to regarding Gibbs

..like i said in the players thread, Gibbs has been in a bubble, where-as Murph has been cutting his teeth on the western front.. ..Murph all the way for me.. ..Gibbs hasn't earned his way yet..

Anyone else find it odd about how Murph got nothing but gushing praise, "He'll be better without the tag" etc, up until a couple of weeks ago? Now all of a sudden his kicking is and always has been crap, he won't be anywhere near as good as Bryce, he ducks his head too much blah blah blah.

Give the kid a chance FFS :garthp:

Nothing agaist Murphy as he is my favourite player and he will be a genuine superstar of our game, i just think and i have said it all along that Gibbs will be even better. ONCE AGAIN THIS IS NOTHING AGAINST MURPHY.

Murph and Gibbs are different. Murph goes in for the hard ball more than Gibbs. Gibbs has silkier skills, and they've both got a good head on their shoulders. Let's face it, this is AFL, to be considered one of the best, you have to go in and win the hard ball. WHEN Gibbs starts winning the hard ball, he'll be better IMO.

watch the 3rd quarter of Saturday night's game and you will see what Gibbs will do on a regular basis in the upcoming years. You are right though, currently no, but Saturday night was the 1st time i reckon that Gibbs had a free licence in the Middle and destroyed it.

SERIOUSLY BESIDES ALL THIS HOW LUCKY ARE WE TO HAVE THEM BOTH RUNNING AROUND IN THE FAMOUS NAVY BLUE FOR THE NEXT 12 YEARS OR SO...... drools and gets some tissues

Tally so far:
Q1: 100% Gibbs
Q2: 60% Gibbs
Q3: 60% Gibbs
Q4: 75% Gibbs
Q5: 92% Gibbs

Gibbs in all cases.
