Yeah, I'll second that AIRCAV.
No one enjoyed running through opponents more than Da Rui. :-D
I enjoyed watching him play.

Unfortunately he wasn't prepared to run through Milane

Rhys i think it was a game agianst the pies at Waverley. millane fixed him up once and for all & i don't think da rui was ever quite the same again.

Tony Southcombe...with the goofy glasses and red hair, was dominant in the first half of the 1977 season, I seem to recall. Hated the city, and couldn't wait to get home. I think the club tried to arrange for him to train at Golden square and just ocme down for the games or something.

STan Gilday was the man..

Electric Blue and Wet Willie,

The Blueseum doesn't have a page for Stan Gilday but it sounds like we should. We will work through the 'Guru' for a summary of games and goals played at Reserves Level (and U19's - note he is listed as winning an award below:

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... s%20Awards

but any colour on his style of play would be welcomed.

From the Blueseum

Peter Sartori.

Loved his ruck work on the forward line.

Remember seeing him one day at Moorabbin when he sank half way up his calves in the mud just trying to walk to his position.

Damn those local showers!!

Do we really have to be over 40 to remember him?
I had his name on my sleeve remember the names that were sewn onto sleeves of Duffle Coats.
Came in a pack with many other names.. hisa was one that stands out as a cooda been.

Duffle Coats... "large" gal had the best one.. I think she was in the cheer squad. Number in the middle of the back and names sewn in not just the printed names she'd made the names to cover the back of the coat and large enough to read!!

From the MOON!

All names pale into insignifance when Stephen Oliver is mentioned

Oliver played off the bench in an Eagles game at Subi.
Sticks got injured early so Oliver went to CHF

He took Jakovich apart

This was when Jakovich was in his prime and beat everyone including dare I say it Carey.

Jakovich was shocked and didnt know what hit him.

Oliver proved to me why Collins used to drive up the bush all the time to get him down

Oliver was a freak.

His name is a constant through this thread.

Tim Lane gave him the nickname "The Bush Coleman". He stood on opponents head for sport.

He probably didnt have the drive to succeed at AFL level - but I think as someone has correctly pointed out he was poorly handled early on.

It was a trade off between lack of opportunity - but lack of opportunity driven by lack of application.

I still remember Earl Spalding going into the 1993 Grand Final under an injury cloud and thinking what might have been if our Match Committee had the balls/inspiration to play Oliver instead - a legend may have been created that day (may not have) but without doubt Stephen Oliver tops the "what if" list of recent times.

He was my fav in the late 80's - cleaned up a few players during matches - and legitimately!!!

Was very hard at the ball - and was built like a brick shithouse.

Spot on. Da Rui was actually scared of Milane in that game

In no particular order;

Laurence Angwin
Karl Norman
Stephen Oliver
Sean Charles
Alan Thorpe
Ben Sexton
Steve DaRui
Mick McGuane (Just because I fkn hate Collingwood)
Peter Sartori
Rhett Baynes
Adrian Whitehead
Barry Mitchell (See McGuane)

Ang Christou - ok more than 50 games, but could have been an absolute legend.

PS - sorry if some of the other picks are a bit contraversial.

He was just starting to come into his own as a very hard at it centre type - who could win the ball at centre square ball ups and push it forward - then he did his knee and was never the same again.
