Can't read much into either side so early in a hit and giggle, but one declaration can be made...

If we kick floaters, helicopters, high and mighties, up and unders - whatever you want to call them - into the forward line this year we won't be playing any finals. The better rebounding teams will murder us. Port showed early that when you are direct to a target in the forward line and weigh the odds in your forward's favor you can pack a punch on the scoreboard. Smart entry into F50 is what's required.

A good win for the young guys non-the-less. Just think with the inclusions of Judd, Hadley and Walker... very nice!

Most of our precision kicks into the forward 50 were futile too.

A win. It's not the real season yet. Be happy now. Round 3 will be the test.

Darren Pfeiffer will be a very good player if he stays focused and off the sauce. Real chance for Rising Star if he plays enough.

Shaun Hampson will be good, but will excite and frustrate this year. Carlton should sign him for 3 years soon, or else the new Queensland franchise (no doubt with AFL assistance) will come knocking.

Lots of ordinary disposals, and Carrots was an offender despite good work in the middle. Murphy's disposal was not great either.

Gibbs is much bigger and good with the ball, I just wish he'd get it more often. Carlton have to use him as a link man and it was good to see him kick out from fullback.

Jamison looks good with more weight, but his (and Bower's) kicking needs a lot of work.

Armfield is very quick and will play some senior footy too.

Good win, but no coincidence that we took control in the 3rd after Brogan went off and we weren't burnt as badly in the centre.

Still a lot of work to do. We just beat half a side. Some promise though

Who was the Port bloke who went off with the blood rule? Proof the interchange rule is a disgrace.

Nothing to get too excited about, nonethelees a win is good for confidence and playing on better grounds!!

Pfeiffer was the pick of the young'uns closely followed by Hampson, Edwards, Bower, and Armfield.

Solid performances from Scotland, Fev, Simpson, Waite, T-Bird

Those questioning fitness of certain players, well this fits in with our strategy to build up to Round 1 of the regular season - no need for concern, just yet. Besides it was only the first hitout for some of the players, and second hitout for the others that played in SA.

Importantly, we came through unscathed, by all reports.

Port didn't replace him on the field so they didn't face any penalty.

Great win, especially for the kids.
But to be honest wether we play hawks or swans next week I hope we get beat, concentrate on training and fine tune before the business end starts.

Just got back from the game, and I'm happy with the win.

Not too excited though, as it's only a pre-season game; but a win's better than a loss.

The Port fans should be absolutely ashamed with themselves. Only just over 9,000 is a disgrace.

There were quite a few Blues fans there, probably made up about a quarter of the crowd.

Makes me wonder why there aren't more SA posters on this board.

Seating wasn't allocated, so you could sit anywhere you wanted.

I ended up moving around a bit, and was on the fence in the forward pocket during the first and third quarters, so I got a close up view of T-Bird's goals.

During the last quarter, I ended up next to Darren Pfeiffer's family.

That's why its a disgrace, no need for the rule full stop .

Ouch, Murph 3/10?? I suppose now is the time that the skills will be worked on the most, hopefully there is big improvement in them both.

We can't fine tune in the NAB cup? As long as we're not bothered about winning the thing I don't see how there's a difference between being in the NAB cup and playing in the Challange games.

I think we're better off in the NAB cup. The grounds in those challenge games arent too flash and more media coverage = more potential members.
