Based on that info and with Lade also a non show it indicates Port are not interested and looking for an early exit...we should win providing enough of our better players take the field....

Onto this PA game...

I watched the last quarter again of the Fremantle game last night. It is compulsory that Pfeiffer plays against Port. In fact, if the kid keeps his head straight, and he suffers no injuries then he will play every match for us this season. He has the silky skills we've been after, and at 21 years old (or whatever) certainly has the potential to be in our line-up on a weekly basis. Interesting too that Ratts swung him into the midfield in the last quarter... I suspect we'll have other midfield options during the regular season, but it shows the club believes he might have the attributes to pinch hit for us in the guts occasionally.

Also... I don't remember too many comments, but how would people feel about Sammy Jacobs being in the squad against Port? I didn't think he disgraced himself against Freo, and maybe it might give him a bit of encouragement if he at least makes the interchange for this match. Thoughts???

Once the season starts it is back to hoping (albeit very painfully) that we lose. It is vital we get two top three picks this year.

How about we put some sides down that we would like to see. I'll start;

Pfeiffer Jamison Thornton
Grigg Waite Scotland
Gibbs Carrazzo Simpson
Houlihan Hartlett Fisher
Kruezer Edwards Betts
Cloke Stevens Murphy
Int: Hampson S.O'hAilpin Bower Russell
Bentick Jackson Anderson Armfield

I wouldn't play Scotland, Fisher and Thornton but I don't think that will happen. Stevens probably needs the run but wouldn't be surprised if he got a rest down the track before round1.

I reckon you've got it pretty much right Surrey!

I hope that Jacobs is at least considered though as it may help his confidence. But overall, I think the combination you've got is spot on!

David Parkin knew how to handle the pre-season comp. Ratts talks to him every week. Let's see how it unfolds.

I thought Jacobs was our best ruckman on the night by a long way. What surprised me most was he seemed to be everywhere in the last quarter, which tells me his mobility has improved considerably.

I doubt he will get a gig through ahead of Cloke, Hammer and Special K. But come end of year he should be promoted if he keeps his form up for Ackland.

My Lineup:

B: Pfeiffer, Jamo, T-Bird
HB: Scotland, Waite, Grigg
C: Gibbs, Carrazzo, Simpson
HF: Fisher, Hartlett, Houligan
F: Betts, Kreuzer, Edwards

RCK: Hammer, Stevens, Murphy

INT: Cloke, Carlos, Armfield, Jackson, Russell, Bower

I think Fev will miss, otherwise it's a bloody hard team to pick.

i agree with you. sammy should always play before Ackland.
with the likes of hampson coming on and cloke and kreuzer its going to be tuff for sammy. also with aisake o'hailpin pushing for a game maybe he should be pushing for a forward spot?

Sammy was murdered by Sandilands and beaten by Gilmore. Hampson was tapping balls half a foot over Sandilands, his performance that night would have cemented him as number 1 ruck.

No no no, can you please clear away that logic. Hampson/Aisake/Kreuzer are developing, we can't throw them in the ruck yet, we'll lose contests as their bodies aren't ready. Ackland may have the least potential by the size of a Denis Pagan thrashing out of all of them, but for this year at least he is the best placed to ensure we are not beaten in the ruck. And this is very important this year as we must go for eight wins to satisfy supporters who deserve eight wins after so many years of suffering.

Did you watch Ackland ever? I don't recall him winning a single ruck contest.

BO is partially right. Either Ackland or Cloke need to play, but its more to protect the bodies of the younger ruckmen, not because he's more likely to win a ruck contest.
