I just wanted to put this out there, tonight i was out with my mates, on bit of a pub crawl around town. We started at one of me best mates places and had a few beers, then we hit the pubs in richmond.

The first pub we hit was the royal oak in richmond, when i got in i noticed that this pub was a richmond tigers pub. All the signs and memoriblila (dont really know how to spell that word) which was all over the place left me disgusted, i noticed then how much i hated the tigers. Then their was a form that they wanted us to sign to show we were there which had the tigers logo on it. As soon as i saw it i refused to sign it a left the pub straight way with my mates fellowing after. I HATE RICHMOND, i want us to thump them so much at round 1, fev to kick at least 6, juddy to carve up if he plays, setanta to kill in the backline, murph to dominate and destroy.

Sorry this mite not be relevant, and i am a little pissed as i write this, but i thought i would share how much i feel about richmond with my talking carlton family,

GO BLUES.

They are one of Carlton's most important traditional rivals if you take the whole 100 plus year history of both clubs into consideration.

From a Carlton viewpoint, one only has to see what happened to Southby in the 1973 grand final to get fired up.

Great club Richmond - shame they have been so dodgy over the last 20 years. It would be good to see Carlton and Richmond battling it out like the old days.

Great thread Fevolution.

I grew up hating Richmond, but like most things sports, hatred comes from an intense rivalry, which due to them being so shit, we just haven't had over the last 20 years.

The only incidents you could really hate them for over that time are the 2001 Semi-Final and Greg Miller making a complete arse of himself in trade week last year.

Personally, thats enough to keep them on the same rung as St Kilda, one step below Collingwood and Essendon*.

I remember me and my best mate trying to belt the living suitcase out of each other after 1982 grand final, fuelled more so by the NS going to Rioli.

But in the last 25 years (God has it been that long?), it is hard to hate the insipid.

Time to re-ignite.

Better send my mate a nasty text message....

PS. Swan in Richmond - great pub. Matter of fact, I feel like one now....

Absolutely Fev!

I was brought up by a richmond-hating mum to clearly identify Richmond as THE enemy. Forget collingwood - they gave us some of our greatest moments, courtesy of the choke. Essendon*, back then, were just another club.

But Richmond!!! That prick Balme, that mongrel Sheedy, that little bald bastard Bartlett... the horrors of 1969... they're THE ONES. If you were around in 1983, you'll know that this hatred of Richmond flipped straight across to Essendon* the minute Sheedy joined them as coach.

And don't you worry - if they're ever any good again, they'll be just as unsufferable as their collingwood and Essendon* brethren.

Yet... at least these guys have done something to inspire and ingite such wonderful hatred (football would be much the poorer without it). Those poor bastards at st kilda, desperately trying to ignite some sort of 'rivalry' with other clubs, when they've been nothing more than a punching bag for a century.

It's not often I come onto the main board and can agree with what's said.

I grew up in Richmond. I feel your rage.

Last night on ABC2 they showed the 69 Grand Final, i have never hated Richmond because alot of my family support them and took me to alot of there games when i was younger. But seeing Kevin fkn Bartlett running around getting kicks in that last quarter (i only caught the last quarter) sent hate through my veins :-D

In that last quarter there were some ripping calls aswell which would have been so much better if we had of won. About 2/3rds into that last quarter the commentator said how Richmond were in the box seat...I have no doubt Bartlett watches that game every night before he goes to bed

Yeah, have to hate Richmond but as behindblueeyes said, hard to hate the insipid.

Richmond have been terrible for 25 years bar one and it's hard to hate people for whom you have respect for.

In some senses, the Carlton v Collingwood rivalry has waned slightly because of the fact that the Pies have beaten us most times in the last 5-6 years. We keep beating Essendon* and the 1999 PF was enough ammunition to keep the rivalry lasting for at least 15 years.

Time to start hating Richmond and their bloody box seats.

I agree 79NSM. The one game we played against them in 95 was one of the most memorable games of the 90s. Not just for the result, but the build up around town & the atmosphere on the day was awesome. I must admit later that year I was barracking pretty hard for them in the semi against Essendon*, & their feral supporters had the MCG rocking.

Having said all that Richmond also provided me with one of the more hilarious sights, when their supporters booed the Tigers off the ground at half time in a practice match they were losing against us, in preseason 2004

Like Carlton they have a lot of supporters in their mid 30s & I've grown up with quite a lot of friends who barrack for them.

Which only makes me hate them more

Good post Fev!

I have only just come to hate Richmond in the past 3 years. The reason for this is called BigFooty. Richmond are my favorite uncles team and my dad always tells me off when I get stuck into them, but reading some of the absolute @#$%&! shit that those assholes over there post makes me so @#$%&! sick. Especially around the tanking and Judd areas. They are right up there with the filth and the scum. Don't get me started on @#$%&! St Kilda supporters either. @#$%&! flowers.

that was my first game ever at the 'G CK, as a 12 Yr old, and it was Fricken mental! my first game ever was the week before at PP.
85,000 at the meca of footy, harrys 300th and a barnstorming last qtr to run out 5 goal winners. i can remember why my dad and unlcle insited we where there about 3 hours before the game and the crowd just grew and grew to almost capacity. after that week i was totally hooked on footy and have hated the tigers ever since.

sheedy and bartlett - scum of the earth!

Love this post. Alcohol has a place in society sometimes.

I was born and brought up in Glen Waverley a Richmond recruiting zone and nearly all my grade were tiggy supporters with number 29 on their backs.
It was great pleasure to see us beat them in 72 when the Tigers were apparently monties.

I dont hate Richmond as much as other clubs. Their supporters are great I reckon. Speak to any Tiggy supporter about their past 27 years of excellence and the pain on their faces is plain to see straight away. Their sarcasm is justifyed given how shit they are. For such a great club their efforts in the last quarter of century have been pure shit due to shocking recruiting(Lounder) their merrygo round and revolving(revolting) door policy of coaches and admin. The supporter who dumped the cow(or chicken ) shit at the door at Punt Road deserves an Australian of the Year award. I hate the club too but admire their supporters.

I have to say that for pure vile you cant go past the Filth or Scum but a special place in my heart goes out to Melbourne.

Oh yes I remember the day out at Artic Park when 60000 of these c--nts in Blue and Red were singing "Its a grand old flag...." at 3quarter time in the dunnies as they thought they were home and hosed against the dawks in the eighty seven Prelim only to see the dream squashed by an Irishman not knowing the rules. You could shoot an AK 47 through the terraces at any Demons game in the previous 23 years and have no cause for concern in hitting any one supporter dressed in a Demon guernsey because they were all off skiing in their 500 dollar ski suits . Pity about that.
To see the look on those supporters afterwards gave me the most pleasure ever at a neutral game.

At least the other 3 clubs mentioned have loyal supporters.

Melbourne are a nothing club full of pompous dicks.

These bastardi aren't just wood workers they have full blown 2 stroke chainsaws to carve themselves out of the wood work they are buried so deep in - but as soon as they have half a sniff the smell of that burning 2 stroke fills your nostrils and makes me sick.

Bartlett was a master at staging for in-the-back & holding-the-man free kicks, that suckered the umps in all the time - I detested the suck.

Sheedy was a thug.

Hate 'em, more than any other.
