our appraoch to the pre-season comp is similar to that of our halcyon days - taken with caution to blood some young'ins and slowly ease the seasoned players into the fold closer to the H&A season.

I'm over winning pre-season comps - time to focus on the big one and create a dynasty in that arena.

Think this was cemented by the AFL employing the rule of limiting the teams to 16 interchanges per quarter (including quarter time breaks).

Sydney especially have come out and said they would rest stars because of this rule because they wouldn't be able to properly manage their game time - would also affect our ability to manage the game time of Fev, Stevens, Judd, Simpson etc.

This team wouldn't suck for Rd 1 NAB Cup though:

FB: Anderson Jamison Browne

HB: Thornton Waite Scotland

C: Russell Gibbs Grigg

HF: Houlihan O'hAilpin Fisher

F: Betts Hartlett Edwards

Foll: Hampson Murphy Jackson

INT: Kreuzer A. O'hAilpin Blackwell Armfield Bower Benjamin

I think Walker and Ackland added to the list of players that should be rested during the pre-season comp. It would allow them to fully recover from their shoulder surgery. Ackland's omission would give Hampson, Kreuzer and Aisake a chance to do alot of ruckwork.

Play Strauchnie! :) (Forgive spelling if incorrect) He's with us now, isn't he?

Excellent news. Fev doesnt need much game time from FF, we can afford to ease Stevo back into things slowly ditto Judd. Besides after the preseason that Murph, Gibbs, etc have had, plus the chance to throw a few younger guys in there i think things will still be pretty exciting, especially since when all is said and done we can think to ourselves... "now imagine that midfield with Judd, Stevens and Walker"

I'm expecting the boys to run out in round 1 ready to demolish the tigers.

I like the way we are doing our bit to stay in the news this off-season. Managing communications is a vital function of a footy club. The reason I say we are doing this is because Ratts said exactly the same things as appear in this article in November or early December (ie. Judd wouldn't play, Fev would have a rest, we'd ease Simpson back into it, our priority was round 1, etc), and this article has just regurgitated those same thoughts two months later.

I look at such articles as a good way of keeping interest around the place and driving membership.

Now Ratts... if you aren't going to play Fev, Judd, and Stevo... can you please put Jake Edwards in the team???

and benji

I'm excited
:-D
Welcome to TC, Stubba. I also want to see what Benjamin can do. He wa sapparently feakish as a schoolboy and has had an injury riddled start. There is a photo of him somewhere taking a wonderful grab all off balance and way up there.

Give him a run if there is a space. Rest Scotland and play Benji instead. Scotland doesn't need to play.

Welcome dave. Good first post.
Perhaps Ackland needs a long rest ...a long loooooong rest maybe..

Interesting listening to Greg Swann for an hour this morning on KB's show on SEN.

He said that Waite would be down back this year....as will Setanta....and that Kreuzer WOULD be in the side in Round 1; and that he was just a great athlete and a lovely kid.

He thought our defence would be stronger this year with Thornton only taking the third tall; and Bower and Jamison showing heaps of promise.

As we have no Veterans on the list; Jamison can be played; even though he's a Rookie.

Hmmm. Ok, i would assume that Waite would be CHB and Setanta would continue as full back then.
Personally, i'd love to see Waite & Setanta rotate at CHF/CHB.

But in Ratts i shall trust.

Blues plot Matthew Kreuzer launching
Quote:
CARLTON'S boom recruit Matthew Kreuzer is expected to be unleashed in the Round 1 NAB Cup clash against Port Adelaide next month.

But Brendan Fevola will play at least a half after consulting coach Brett Ratten.

While the 199cm, 94kg Kreuzer will eventually develop into a ruckman, he is expected to play half-forward against Port.

I long for the days when he had Deluca playing on the HFF line. :(
