Nothing much new here - but raised the following:

* Looking forward to traveling o/s with the playing group - important for the players to get to know each other a lot better which needs to be fast tracked.

* Stated that media got a bit carried away with the Judd 'record' around Princes Park. Whilst 10min 30" is a great time - only one player has officially recorded under 10 mins and that was Adrian 'Bear' Gleeson who ran 9.48 and Ratts didn't think anyone would beat that time.

* Captaincy issue hasn't changed - process will take care of itself.

* Asked who was 'flying' this preseason - stated Murph as being in the top 3...changed topic to changing players body shape (due to Justin Cordy's involvement). Adam Bentick has come down from 88kg to 83kg. Primary focus to take muscle off the top - add muscle to core stability areas and work on speed. Those attending training would have noted the sprinting work being done with AB and Braddles.

That's about it...very short and sharp and a nice way to start a Friday morning.

The only thing I would add to the Doc's excellent summation is that Ratten said Carazzo was leading the pre-season training until just before Christmas, when he rolled his ankle.

It sounds like the reigning John Nicholls Medallist isn't resting on his laurels.

Benchy does look far more streamlined. He was starting to look like Fev for awhile there.

i don't know about any of you but I'm kind of getting over all the judd questions and the Messiah like presence portrayed by the media. I think its time the club start playing it down and refer to judd as part of a team striving to bring this club back playing competitive football and making the finals.

we should try and trade him to Collingwood.

What was interesting was talkback after and the number of Carlton supporters who don't want to see Judd captain this season.

Personally I dont see the point in appointing someone for just this season so if Judd is going to be our captain then do it from this season.

Stevens scored the most votes, Judd, Scotland and Simpson the only others to get one.

Simpson is the only choice I'd like to see apart from Judd.

I agree. Stuff "perception". Who cares if this is Judd's first year. We should appoint the best qualified player as captain of the club. Judd IS the most qualified Carlton player to captain this club.

Unless he declines the offer, Judd should be made captain of the club without a doubt.

Great to see Simmo being talked up....he was outstanding as Captain last year and did not put a single foot wrong....so much so that if you remember the rotation thing went out the window and Simmo remained . (Fev helped that also )

When you're in our situation, you don't appoint a Captain just for 1 year. Why would you want to be tied for many years to the wrong person?

It is folly to suggest Judd should not be Skipper because he is new. He is arguably the best credentialed player to Captain an AFL side, so to dismiss his candidacy because he is new is sheer stupidity. In any event, we have a young side, so it's unlikely these kids will place too much stock on how long x player has been at the club.

Whether Judd gets enough votes is another question, and whoever gets selected will be picked on merit. But he should definitely be right up there in the running, because he is a gun who leads on field with almost unrivaled performances, and off field is virtually flawless.

New coach. Young list. New era. Give the Captaincy to the best candidate, pure and simple. Don't let irrelevant factors impact on choosing the best player for the role.

Judd, Stevens, Fevola, Waite, Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer... it is exciting times people. Let's just hope Waite can become a gun running CHB, Setanta can become a gun FB, and Kreuzer and Hampson can become gun rucks. Then we will be in serious Premiership chasing shape.

The club didn't recuit Judd just to play football.

He's the centrepiece in the plan to re-establish Carlton as a power, both on and off the field.

He'll be captain because:

He's a premiership captain, brownlow medallist and best player of his generation.

He's 24, so he can lead the club for 8 years.

He's the face of the club now, regardless. Whenever we want positive publicity for our brand or our sponsors brands, it'll be Judd we'll wheel out. Kinda weird if he isn't the captain.

He has a massive aura around him. Why would you choose anyone else on our list to lead Gibbs, Murphy and Co, when you could choose Chris Judd? Just doesn't make sense.

As good a job as simmo did as stand-in last season, I reckon even simmo would feel a little embarrased captaining Chris Judd.

Stevens is coming back from a huge injury that threatened his health in a major way. Still no guarantee he'll be able to sustain his career yet.

Scotland? The guy who was on his last chance last year? I don't think so.

There aren't really any other genuine options, and I suspect the leadership group, football department and board will vote for him anyway.

And anyone who thinks that Judd doesn't need the 'added pressure' of captaincy, pfft. He's already got the burden of leading this group of players anyway - all we'll be doing is giving him the honour of formally recognizing his status.

For what it's worth....I remember Garry Lyon who sat in on the Melbourne presentation to Judd last year as Judd had idolised him as a player when he was a kid.

I remember Lyon saying after that meeting that Judd stipulated that he "was not interested in being Captain of whichever Club he chooses"

That's because he was just going through the motions in his Melbourne meeting and didn't want to get their hopes up

It IS inconceivable that a kid like Simmo E.G. would be Captain over Judd....Stevo being the only other option if Judd DIDN'T want it.

C'mon Warby, you've got to remember that anything Lyon says publicly should be regarded as 'theatre' and that he is no different to Sam Newman these days .. an entertainer (apparantly)


I'd love to see a united front from Stevo Fev Simmo Ratts all in support of Captain JUDD.
