On the radio recently, Shwartz said he thinks the Blues can make the Eight this year. Not unsurprisingly, a raft of Collingwood and Richmond ferals called in to take Schwartz to task.

It was pretty funny listening all round, however the caller who made me laugh the hardest was the village idiot from Punt Rd way who said "if you look at the lists you'll conclude Richmond have the better side".

Now, even accepting that the Tigers were without Brown, Simmonds and Coughlan last year, does it not occur to this deluded soul that 2008 means little and that what he should be more concerned with is Richmond's mid to long term future.

Had this naive chap considered this in light of Richmond's list, he would probably be shitting in his black and yellow pants right now, because the fact of the matter is just about all of Richmond's best players are in the twilight of their careers.

Following are the ages of these players in 2008...

Brown 30
Richardson 33
Simmonds 30
Bowden 30
Johnson 30
Tivendale 29

In contrast, Carlton's best players are ...

Judd 24
Fevola 27
Stevens 28

I guess the only downside to all this is in a few years time Richmond will probably have a handful of no.1 draftees in their side.

Doesn't matter. Richmond are in the box seat anyway.

For the retirement homes.

What was Ox's response to this nonsense? I imagine he would've been far more diplomatic if the caller wished him a happy birthday first.

I agree with your sentiments VB but even the most feral tigers supporter would'nt post the words "best players" and "Tivendale"in the same paragraph.

Richmond, Essendon*, Collingwood AND Carlton clearly have some colourfull fans and are very passionate.

But i gotta say, Richmond and Collingwood supporters are clearly the most bitter and sooky.

If somebody says something positive on Carlton (especially news reports) you can bank on dozens of Richmond and Collingwood supporters will be on the phone to call in for a cry.................... SEN is like Therapy for them.

"Wah, wah, wah............ Carlton will loose all their games and finish last!"

Haha. Pretty funny really.

Tivendale at least can kick a goal on the run from 50m. But point taken, you'd hardly classify him a top player.

Should I start a similar thread about Essendon*'s awesome list?
