Our biggest problem.
First an foremost a small running defender who can manage Didak, Milne types.Either Anderson, Browne or Armfield. Browne and Armfield have been obviously recruited for this purpose.
A big mother down back. We are crying out for one and Hartlett fits the bill.
Carlos to play the other key defensive post whichever one it is.
Thornton will play down back but must lift this year. Was shit in the second half injured or not. Needs to become more creative.

Bower provides flexibility to play on smalls or talls and provides run.

The other spot to Walker who will provide run out of defence. IMO he is suited best to this position and will be squezzed out of the midfield rotation.

I would also like to see Ratten employ a 3 ruck rotation with 2 on the field at one time with one dropping back to help out in defence and fill in the hole. This was so missing last year. Obviously I am talking Ackland 07 and Kreuzer, Aisake and Hampson 08. On certain occasions Carlos had no chance with a vacant half forward line to lead into for Brown and co.

And I really like Jamison to get a run which he will I am sure in 08.

You make a lot of good points concerning our structure.......

re: Hartlett.....agree with the theory about another big body down back but not so sure about his mobility but dont mind seeing him given a go.

re: Walker......I like him running on the ball and having a ping at the goals, but I take your point about being squeezed out...you cant play all our mids on the ball and Walker being a decent size and mobile gives you that in between type across half back who can play on a variety of players. The only other player who gives you that option is Bannister.

I'll be interested to see if Scotland plays the quarterback role across half back again...works well in setting up play but you get caught out if the opposition dont have any bunnies for him to play wide on.. eg Geelong have several specialist half forwards like Chapman, S Johnson etc and you cant be unaccountable on those types...

Not so sure about three ruckman....Cats use Milburn to fill in the hole where players like J Brown lead into, they also double team the go to men in opposing teams.
