And you obviously have the same problem off it. Sydney Blue...hmmm...so how many Bullants games did you attend? I'd say he's very much a Marther given his temper, and with more and more training will no exactly how to read the play. His speed and agility, kicking, and hand-passing is not a problem whatsoever. I look forward to him proving you wrong.

As for Walks, he's a outright champion. He's a born leader on the field and the training track!

Get that bloody shoulder fixed Walks. Get better!

ABC 2 telecasts several games of the Bullants up here - late on a wednesday night I watched every one of them. He looks miles off - His elder brother has been in the system two years longer and he is still struggling to come to grips with it . He has had one good game I can think of against an out of form Barry Hall when we got smashed by 92 points.

I am still yet to be convinced that either of these two players will be anything I hope I am proven wrong

Good answer, but I think it's fair to say that watching a game live and on tv are two very different perspectives. For instance, Setanta I thought smashed Lloyd in the early rounds, but re-watching it on TV didn't give me the same feeling. I know I was write about it as I saw all the things he did do behind camera, but it wasn't about how many times the camera saw him in posession or around the person in possesion. I think the cameras generally benefit the person picking up posessions. There's plenty in the team that benefit from this!

They'll make it man, really I believe that. I got roasted on theblueview years ago for sticking up for Simpson and to a lesser extent Fisher, and for bagging Sporn in his "prime." Like everyone on here I reckon my opinion's pretty good!!!!

I reckon that's harsh on Setanta. Had a real purple patch at the end of last year/start of this year as a key defender.

Critics will point to a couple of bags kicked on him, but there's not a defender that's ever lived that hasn't copped a bag against them at one stage or another.

Can't really comment on Aizake as I haven't seen enough of him - but I reckon Carlos will end up with his name on a locker.

From todays “SUN”
Quote:
Both midfielder Andrew Walker and ruckman Cain Ackland have had minor shoulder surgery, but the club expects them back in running drills by mid-January.
Carlton football manager Steven Icke said neither would miss much training.
"We thought because the boys had a 12-day break now, they could have the surgery and come back and only miss the first week of the running program," Icke said.

Looks like the club & “boys” have it all under control. Scheduled the Ops’ for minimum disruption to their pre-season training.

I agree. People go on and on about tall guys who are good athletes being valuable, but IMHO a guy who is 200cm who literally throws himself into contests and is so aggressive at the ball.... (and the man  ).... is priceless.

Just remember that Setanta has made the grade already and that if he doesnt get significantly better he will still be regarded as a good servicable player. In around 2 years he will be in his prime, and 2 years development for someone who is still learning the game could take him anywhere.

To ensure no mixed message on Setanta:

1/ Sure, he still is in early stages and has plenty to go.

2/ A guy of his ability and background offering total commitment and achieving what he has is remarkable

3/ Playing for as long as he has, in as many positions as he has, and in a culture he has over recent years, how hard can that be.

Time will tell, but he is on his way to be a big part of our future.

This is the classic difference between someone who needs to be spoon fed a great player and others that can see it in the making. Setanta and Sake have played the game for only a handful of years and have already made unbelievable progress (particularly for tall guys). You have to look past the fact that they may not be killing in their first 10 games like others (not that very many talls ever kill it so quickly), and look at the potential based on athleticism, intelligence, desire, competitiveness, courage, heart, etc.... great athletes have all these qualities. The skills and footy smarts just need to catch up a little. It takes a few years. Most kids you see runnning around have played the game since under 10s and have instincts that Setanta and Sake have to learn. Open your mind a little SB and look at what they have accomplished already in a short time and you'll will see the good things to come. Setanta can definitely hold down CHB for the next 5 years the way he is going and Sake could be anything. He is an amazing athlete. I spoke to their big brother Sean Og during the year and he tells me that Sake is the more equipped out of the two to do great things. He is an amazing athlete. Which heartens me greatly considering I think Setanta is already on a fast track to succeeding ... I would definitely put a wager on a 100+ game AFL career for both.

I remember in 1993 when Koutoufides was being shouted at from the Princes Park outer for being nothing more than muscle on legs who couldn't hold a mark or kick to save his life. Well, he was dropping some easy marks and his kicks were sometimes wayward so they probably had a point then.

I'd be suprised if the same people were saying that 2 years later.

I don't know much about footy development. What I've seen of Setanta I like very much. He seems to be in a similar position to those I saw shouting at Kouta in 93. Let's hope in 2 years time his early follies are all but forgotten.

Lets hope we don't wait until Walker is 26 to work out where his best position is - on the ball. In the MIDDLE. Same as was Kouta. Many crapped on (still do) about Kouta's great athleticism and missed his best attribute - his hands. Walker is comparable in terms of his hands. With his size and athleticism I simply have no idea why they don't play him there. Start him there. @#$%&! team balance. Put your best ball winners on the ball and work from there.

I'm certain they will come to this conclusion sooner or later. Let's make it sooner. Let any one of our million half back flankers have his spot back there. He can go back there if he is being tagged. Otherwise, CUT THE KID LOOSE FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!!!!

Right with you there windows, been banging on for as while now that Walker should be used in the middle and right in the guts in close. His skills in the contest are very good and his handball skills in close are very good. Put him in the guts and see what he can do.
