I just got thinking after posting about 2 minutes ago in another thread, and I know its too early and its very speculative, but at this stage, which our the current 200ish players do you expect to make it?

The reason I ask is that we are all so sure that Kruezer will be a star, we think that Hampson is the next big thing, We know that Setanta is ready take the next step, We hear that Aisake as more promise then his brother, Cloke didn’t do much wrong before his injury last year, etc etc

So....

How many talls can we play in a team before we compromise our speed and agility? 3? 4? 5 even?

What positions and which players will make up the premiership team of 09?

For me its;

Ruck/Rotating forward: Kruezer and Hampson

CHB or FB: Setanta

It’s December... we obviously need something to talk about.... so.... DISCUSS!

Depends how you look at it....

hampson as a ruck
cloke as CHF
Kreuzer as ruck/rover/HFF
Setanta CHB

Aisake FB

Aisake, Setanta, Kreuzer are super Agile big men and don't quite fit the mold.

Aisake Setanta Hammer Kreuzer seemingly all have agility pace and good hands, so that makes them very versatile and capable of playing many roles, not just the obvious ones.
Their individual performances this year will answer a lot of questions re their futures IMO.

When you are 200cm tall, can run the 100 in even time and have a standing vertical leap of around 80cm - you can never have too many.

we'll probably trade one of them for a first round pick in 2-3 years.

setanta is getting better all the time... aisake is a freak but has shown nothing at AFL level. hampson has potential++++++ but needs to solidify his position in AFL.... Kreuzer will be sensational at CHF in two years.

Fair point. I'm not saying for a second that its a bad thing... but i just cant see how a team can fit any more then three 200cm+ guys into the one lineup. Kruezer + Hampson + Setanta + Aisake makes 4 already. Im just interested to hear where people can see these guys playing, not neccessarily naming players, but naming positions (besides ruck and Setanta at FB) where you can play guys that big. This is making the assumption that they all make the grade of course.

Dont ask yourself how you can fit 3 x 200cm + guys in your line up -

Ask yourself how can an opposing team STOP 3 x 200cm + guys in your line up. 8)

It's not a matter of height, but agility and speed.
A 200 cm bloke who can run as fast a speedy 178 cm bloke? Play him.
A 200cm bloke with the agility of a a bloke who is 185cm? Play him.

Hampson has the agility of a smaller man in a big man's package with reasonable speed.
Setanta and his brother are big boys but have good agility and excellent pace.
Kreuzer apparently has the endurance of a midfielder.
And we all know that if the ball hits the deck, a fellow like Setanta is going to go in after it as hard as anyone else.

So, height is not an issue - it's the other things - mentality, agility and pace. Your side is only too tall if you sacrifice one of the other elements, just as it would be too short if you played only smaller, speedy, agile blokes.

Jesus H. God Dancing Christ - just be thankful that we have Hampson, O'hAilpins 8) and Kreuzer playing on our side - and let the other sides have to worry about figuring out how to counter it. :x

Sheesh!!! :P

[color=blue]As we have 9 games at Telstra Dome where weather is NOT an issue why would you NOT play to your strengths and have 4 or 5 talls (if they are playing, its a competition to get into the best 22 to play that oppositon team that week). It makes it very hard for the other team to cover them all.

From memory "they don't get are shorter in the last quarter" still applies.[color=blue]
