The below players that are highlighted in red will have to show improvement in 2008 or else I believe they will face the risk of being delisted or at least traded.

Does anyone know how many changes need to made to an AFL list at the end of the year? Was it 5 or ?

I think there is a few to cull at the end of 2008 if some dont show some good signs!

Hey mate, 2008 hasn't even STARTED yet. Jumping the gun a little aren't we (though I'd pay that it's a low news week).

FWIW, your highlighted players seem to be around the mark - though I'd say that Cloke doesn't exactly need to improve. If he plays like he played before he was injured this year he'll get another run.

Bannister I really like, serviceable but only making up the numbers - it appears like he *JUST* dodges the delisting bullet year after year. I think if he could find his niche (specialist tagger, HBF?!) and make a fist of it he'd get another gig - otherwise it seems like he's just there until we can 'upgrade'.

Ackland I wouldn't be surprised if he really lifts this year - even though I'm not holding my breath. Remember he is on a the last year of a 2 year contract, with a 3 year optional based on performance. :P

Saddo, like him but as someone else mentioned on here he is very much a one trick pony... and I can see someone like Setanta taking up his role in the backline.

Wiggo... well Pagan loved him like a second child, and it seems that Ratts sees value in the Wiggler as well. If he plays a full year we might see him get another contract.

Blackwell, Hartlett, Edwards - all on borrowed time. Edwards being the only one that may have a bit of leeway. With have to really show something in 08 to stay.

Clint Benjamin, he ain't going nowhere. 8)

Just my opinion, but then - are all their contracts expiring at the end of 08??

I would take Edwards off that list, and substitute Jordan Russell.

Just watch, mark my words - every player listed in red is going to win AA selection or play every game this year and poll well in the Brownlow...

...that would be cool. 8)

Judd is contracted for 5 years and can only be traded if he agrees.
I agree with most but Jake and Benji would surely be kept. Jake will surprise a few this year I suspect, he was bottom aged when drafted from memory and had a few injuries too. Benji way too early. I like the way Clokey goes about things may also surprise if his shoulders hold out. Ironically no one will retire for a few seasons (due to age) so pressure mounts.

If we were smart we could of traded Judd to North for the 70% shares previously owned by the 3 stooges. Once done we could of merged the two clubs as the Carlton Blues, and at the same time claimed Wells and Judd back, added Jesse Smith, McIntosh, Pratt and Hansen.

Anyway the jury is out on the following this year:

Bannister
Ackland
Cloke
Hartlett
Saddington
Blackwell

Wiggins and Bentick will remain as they are a good type to have as depth players.

Reckon Ackland will be shown the door anyway .. how long has he been on the list? Jase probably as well, but you will note that he wasn't a regular on the side until Ratts took the helm ..

But definitely Ackland

As much as I like Jordan Russell, he may be in a bit of strife if he doesn't pick up the pace just a bit. Who knows, everything will be different next season.

Wiggins and Bannister are both fantastic clubmen/trainers, but unfortunately they lack consistency/ability and so may go a similar way as Teague.

Benjamin and Edwards I'd like to see have a go in the AFL before cut - I see a place for Edwards especially.

Who knows about Cloke, he could be a great player this year.

As for Hartlett - we'll see.

would it be worth it to try for the other Cloke when his contract is up? I mean, a family connection would do both of them good, wouldn't it?
