To further my post in another thread, where I stated that in trying to buy my little 9 year old brother a Carlton guernsey for his first game next year I rang up the Carlton Shop to inquire about prices and availability - only to be told that the only junior guernseys in stock were Size 6, in the clash strip. I was then told that more wouldn't be available at the Carlton Shop until February next year.

The potential lost revenue aside (coming up to Christmas and all), I was doing my Christmas shopping at Northland today (took a sicky, hate the big Xmas Shopping crowds) and went to Rebel Sport to source out a Carlton guernsey.

Ok, here are the AFL guernseys. There's Collingwood, Essendon*, Brisbane, Port Adelaide, where are the Carlton guernseys?! Every single team, but Carlton. Then I spied at the end of the wall a rack with 2 single Carlton guernseys... no Adults left, only 2 juniors - Sizes 6 and 12.

Without a word of a lie, every other teams rack, Collingwood and Essendon* included were FULL. Chocas. Adults and Juniors in any size you'd want... the Carlton rack (after I grabbed the Size 12 for my brother) now has one Size 6 junior guernsey remaining.

The supporters are excited. There will be many Carlton guernseys being given as gifts come this Christmas... little tackers and old farts alike will be walking around proud to wear the Navy Blue.

Which brings me to two more things.

Firstly, when speaking to the membership department the other day, I was told that they have process almost 5 thousand memberships already - and that number would increase dramatically with thousands, yes thousands! of unprocessed membership forms. The guy I was speaking to said that - in comparison to last year (which was record-breaking membership-wise) this year we were tracking ALOT better than this time last year. Bandwagon or not, the memberships are stacking up by the day!

And finally, I was knocking off work last week - waiting for a bus on Commercial Rd, Prahran when I see this fella walking towards me in - what else - a Carlton guernsey. I was thinking I'd give him a rev up when he walked past, but a guy walking towards him in the opposite direction got to him first - with a 'We're looking good for next year mate'. As he passed me, I shot him a thumbs up and a 'Go Blue Boys!'.

With expectations or otherwise, everyone is getting behind the Blues. If nothing else remember that we're not even midway through December and the hype is already there - I can't wait until the few weeks before the season starts, and the very first time a match day Sherrin falls into the hands of a Carlton player. During the off-season, every team is equal - are every supporter of every team is hoping for bigger and better things come 2008. None more it seems, than Carlton supporters.

Looks like everyone is getting behind the Navy Blue - I definitely am, and I hope you are too...

Maybe Eddie and FatPrick convinced everyone to burn all our jerseys, which would explain why none were left ;)

Read the first paragraph of my post - the Carlton Shop was the first place I contacted to get a guernsey, and they have sweet f a. Ditto Faraday St. Any other Carlton Merch. - make sure you go to the Carlton Shop though.

Yeah, it seems like Navy Blue is the new Black. Apart from the additional revenue it will create (does Carlton get ANY proceeds if say you purchase a guernsey from Rebel?!?) I'd like to think that all (or at least most of) those guernseys will be purchasing memberships - which will hopefully mean a real presence at matches next year to compare with the likes of Collingwood etc.

I remember our last 2 years at Princes Park, how I would get so frustrated each week that we were playing at OUR HOME GROUND and we were being matched 1:1 attendance with Swans and Lions supporters, let alone any melbourne-based team... now I can see a future where we will have more supporters signed up than the maximum capacity of Telstra Dome. :P :P

Buy from Rebel and AFL makes licence fee, Rebel makes retail markup.

Buy from the Carlton Shop and all stays in house (I think there is even a licence fee discount when they buy from the wholesaler/distributor....part of original handover deal).

either way...lot's of dosh stays at the club as opposed to ZERO

I don't want to sound like a wet blanket, but would the absence of Blues jumpers have something to do with a reported recall which was mentioned here a couple of weeks back?
