To the mods, as a sign of respect can you change the Chris Judd in our profiles to George Harris for the rest of this week please?

Condolences Harris family. RIP

George Harris put the arrogance into Carlton and made us all believers maybe we need a Harris cup against Collingwood in memory of the great man.

Great photo, Warby.

It is important to be reminded of what he gave to this club - and what he gave was premierships.

You will not be forgotten, George. Thanks for giving so much time, effort, concern and love to the Carlton Football Club.

I think that would be an appropriate mark of respect.

People of my generation remember the the 6 flags (8 Grand Final appearances) in 15 years (1968 to 1982) with great fondness and it was largely built on the back of George Harris's vision & legacy. :-D

George, you kick started a great Carlton dynasty and you left us just when we're about to begin another. Deep down you must have known that we're in good hands.

R.I.P. George and condolences to the Harris family

A pretty good turnout for George's funeral this afternoon which began with Sinatra's "My Way" blaring out from the speakers...pretty much summed the man up right there I reckon... Good to see many old stalwarts in attendance - namely Barassi, Collo, Lofts and Jimmy Buckley (some pretty tough Carlton men in that lot). Some nice reflections from family members and tributes from Mike Williamson, Barass, Dennis Munari and Ian Collins. George did one final lap of honour around the ground before the rain came.

At the end of the Service booklet there was an interesting story...

After putting up his age to enlist in the army, George sailed with Joe (brother) from Perth to Singapore in 1940. There they met up with their father Joe Senior who had been put in charge of the armed truck division and who requested that his sons join him in that division. Later they were all taken with other prisoners of the Japanese, to work on the railway at Changi - for the next 3 and a half years. Miraculously, they all returned from the war together.

Keith, Joe and eventually George all suffered from the same disease Mylodysplasia - which has been attributed to the wood from the ship on which they sailed from Australia.

Thanks for the Dr.

Nice that Jarrad was there - no doubt representing Vin.

I reckon each and every player on our list should have gone to the funeral.
All are at a great club because of the great man!!!

Synners - I think with regards to the players that were there they probably put their hands up to attend. Hats off to Jarrad, Brendan and Andrew for doing so along with some recently retired boys. But funerals are a funny thing, and most of our guys are very young and would only be turning up because they were told to and it wouldn't mean much...much better to have a round of golf with the past players than to make small talk at a funeral...and the round of golf will be happening in the new year.

Would have meant as much as Nick Reiwoldt being a pall bearer at Graeme Kennedy's funeral. :?

It was good that Jarrad attended as his father was recruited to Carlton under George's Presidency.

With regard to yonng players not knowing much about club history - part of their development program should involve teaching them about club history etc - in much the same way young children should get taught proper Australian History (themes please spare me  ) and Civics.
