Okay Mr. ACCC your "looking into" the oil cartel.

We look forward with great interest to the size of the fine that either of the following Shell/Coles, Woolworths/Caltex, Mobil, BP will pay. Wink

You don't get it do you...? It becomes a matter for the courts - the ACCC has already lost one battle over petrol pricing 'collusion'...it is there to protect the consumer you know? BTW - not sure what relevance a B.Comm from Melbourne has to do with anything - did it used to work on the ladies in the early 80's?

At last some commonsense. Good opening post.

I was in Hamilton Island for a week. I was living within the biggest price fixing arrangement of all time. What a rip off. No TC'er should go there. Extremely over inflated prices.

The ACCC only cares about headlines, and any pretense that it acts on behalf and for the community is how it justifies it's meaningless existance. If the useless sacks of shite can't get enough evidense from the price fixing and predatory pricing from the likes of Coles and Woolworths or how the price of petrol has magically increased with relation to barrel price since these two have entered into the petrol market then it shows how impotent it's abililty is to investigate companys without offering imunity is. Let's face facts, even with this biggest cartel they had no idea what was going on and only because Amcor approached the ACCC did they achieve this outcome.

You didn't quite think that through did you? You don't think that Amcor got a little paranoid at the ACCC investigations?
Look - the immunity is one of the only ways to stamp this bullshit out - but it's unlikely to happen again on the same scale once everyone sees how badly Amcor will suffer from all this...and it's their own fault.
Anyway - I think enough's been said on the topic already...if some of you understood how the ACCC worked and the power given by the Federal Gov't to it - you might have an idea. Do your homework - the ACCC busted it's gut to get some petrol companies and the courts through it out.
The ACCC does not regulate food prices either...under Kevin Rudd this is likely to change.

This article sums up Amcor's situation well:

Kevin Rudd has no idea how the supermarkets work and like other labor governments even less motivation to do anything about it.

I fail to see how Amcor will come out worse than Visy has, but lets see what happens in due course. I still can't accept that a company who blows the wistle first receives a get out of jail free card. Just imagine if that applied to rapests and murderers. A person gets off free for raping or killing your child because he saved the police from having to investigate matters fully and dobbed in his mates who were involved.
Some kind of justice huh

As for the ladies on campus during the early 80s "Brandivino" worked the best.

ummm...i was referring to it changing - as in Rudd will give the ACCC powers that Costello did not and that fruit and veg will be high on the list...

Best accept that you're knowledge of this matter is based on ? ...what - SEN? Maybe the Herald-Sun? FFS - move on. At the end of the day what Pratt did was wrong - he knows it - i know it - heck..even you know it! What we all agree on (bar a large contingent of the Melb.media) is that it has very little to do with footy or Dick Pratt's involvement as President of the Carlton Football Club...heck - Demetriou and the AFL Commission know that as well.

And you honestly believe that
A) he will follow through with his promise? I just don't trust politicions
B) It will make any difference to the workings of the supermarkets and the prices they charge the public for fruit and veg or petrol.

That's a little presumptuos don't you think. I bet that I will have a much better idea than 99.9% of posters on this site, but that's not the point.

I was not comparing low life criminals to that of Pratt, I was commenting on how the process works and that complete imunity should never be offered for anyone who breaks the law.
By offing this to the exec's of Amcor they have made a mockery of this whole investigation and rather than it being viewed as a successful investigation by the ACCC, it mearly smells of a witch hunt.

I dunno. I'm sure that the thought of how much crap Carlton and its supporters would have to put up with because of this never occured to Mr Samuel ;)

We're here for love of the Club.

Richard Pratt has saved that very football Club. The one we all love.

That's enough of a fact for me to support him.
