i feel he's a wannabe alan jones with a focus on afl. the only difference is alan is better spoken and has actually achieved something important in sport, unlike patrick. let the sponsors know how you feel.

I also listened to Patrick's Smith's outburst this morning while driving into the Club. It was one of the most disgraceful, biased and personal journalistic outbursts I have heard. I attempted to call the station but couldn't get through so I contacted someone I know personally who works at the station. I have lodged a complaint in the strongest possible terms. The person he compared Dick to doesn't warrant discussion and infact unless that person HAD a recycle bin in his backyard before he fled the country then I can't see any semblance of similarlty.

I don't think the last of this has been heard.

Thanks Mark. Its good to hear the club directors happy to get on the front foot on this issue. The bias is highly evident also with Francis Leach. He was conducting his own witch hunt last Friday.

It seems to be certain media commentators only driving this issue. Most people arent that upset by it, but certain people won't let it die and keep raising it to stir the pot even though people arent that intersted.

Yeah, this systematic and relentless attack on our football club that hasn't ceased for the whole year, needs to be stopped. We've been way too nice.

In 2004, my company and my household ceased to subscribe to the Australian because Patrick Smith devalued the content of the paper; I wont read rubbish, when there is 8 papers to sift through each day.

Today, 2007, I am pleased to say, I know of at least 20 other business people (most non Carlton and many NRL supporters) who no longer subscribe to that paper either. I may have influenced them a bit :wink:

, but did not tell them why I thought which part of the paper was utter rubbish...but constantly made the comment that it's gone downhill, and joked "do you read that rubbish?"..."no wonder you're behind the times"...

I do enjoy SEN when in Melbourne, but have stuck to my guns; Patrick Smith is off limits. He's a disgrace, and I refuse allow his litter to permeate into my wonderful brain.

Whilst in Melbourne during the Judd trade, I also found KB nauseating...and very boring I may add. He just rambles, and is at his age, definetely isn't in the comical league of Jack Dyer, Bob Davis and Lou Richards; but he's trying to be.

Boycott them.

I do believe legai action is worth a shot, but then again, it may make Patrick better known.

I prefer to say "Patrick who?"...nah , never heard of him"

Usually people know to ignore what he says, but if you listened to this attack this morning, it went waaaaaaaay past the line.

I haven't had the great pleasure of Mr Smith's intellect since he left the Age, and have not been moved to ever read an Aust'n article or listen to him on radio. Just as an aside, why do journo's automatically get gigs on radio? Anyway, he is not intelligent, (when was the last time he came up with an idea), he was always promoted at the Age as being 'provocative' , not insightful, not analytical, not accurate but provocative. Pretty easy being provocative. But his worst sin is he just can't write. His prose is as sharp as wet cement. And he has no insights, he just doesn't understand human beings and has absolutely no empathy. He is a bitter man.

The question is how on earth does he hold his job. He offers nothing. No-one ever seems to speak to him. He has no inside information, he has no empathy with human beings, he never played any footy beyond school, his writing is wooden, and he has all the wit of a house brick.

I reckon if you got all the kids doing VCE to write a sports article 90% would come up with something better than P Smith.

I think it goes back to his youth. Two years matric struggling to get okay marks in English Lit to push his forlorn ambition to be a journo, a word perhaps from Sam Loxton, (Prahran CC heavy) to the Hun, to get Smithy a cadetship, perhaps even ahead of more qualified candidates. A career as a tearaway 'bowler' (how bent was that elbow?). Dreadful batting average so probably a bully and a coward. Didn't quite make the Vic side, partially due to concerns about said action. Mix it all up and you get a prick of a bloke. But if it's any consolation, I'd suggest he is bitter, unhappy, and has no friends.

Mr Pratt's legal advisers are currently ooking into this matter.

The club has decided to sit back and wait on the issue and let DP's team handle it.

The club is passing on all support received from supporters to DP - he is disappointed by the constant media baiting but bouyed by the support he is receiving from Carlton people.

The club are unable to ban Smith from press conferences because "he does not attend any".
