Swann has said these deals mean that Carlton has the highest sponsorships in the AFL.

How the @#$%&! can you make a negative of that?

Great work Blues, Swann an Dick

This is Melvey...you know, Opposite Man. Good is bad, black is white, Judd's off to Collingwood, it's like a glimpse into a bizarro dimension where all is not what it seems.

The best we can do is Hyundai as a JOINT sponsor.

The club is associating themselves as what is percieved a cheap and nasty korean brand in Australia.

Visy had to come on board because we could not land another sponsor, and they try fluff it up by selling it as this enviromental awareness campaign.

Look at he pies, Lexus, Emirates, Mcdonalds, Sony

Carlton, Hyundai, Optus, Visy all second rate corporates.

Pub deals fail, Major sponsorship falling through, yet to begin development and some people on this site have the nerve to bag other clubs.

again, this carlton arrogance will be our downfall. People will never learn

The Carlton Football Club is a tarnished brand.

Go buy a hyundai!!!!! geez

Melvey, you frequently show that you have little to no idea on most topics, and once again you have not failed to disappoint on this one.......

Hyundai are far removed from the quality issues that they were experiencing 15-20 years ago when they were starting out as a car manufacturer. It takes a long time for the initial bad impressions to disappear, but Hyundai has been over that for a long time now.

I studied engineering (manufacturing) at uni, and I can tell you that Korean manufacturing industry techniques (especially at companies like Hyundai) are first class; the fact that they can do it at such low cost is purely economically based.

Tarnishing the brand, pffft!!!! The exposure that this partnership will give both brands will be of benefit to all involved. Hyundai is an emerging brand and so are we.

Besides, I couldn’t give a stuff where the money comes from; $2.5 million is $2.5 million every day of the week!!! :-D

When are you going to come out of the closet and admit your deep desire for Colonwood?

How many grass roots footy supporters can afford to fly Emirates or buy a Lexus?

Especially Collingwood supporters... and the only Sony equipment they get to see is the electrical equipment they are carrying through your broken window as they burgle your house!! and that quickly gets pawned at the local pub anyway! :-D

Exactly - also from the same article is this beauty from Swann in relation to Pratt's trials and the presidency :

[quote]“It hasn’t hindered us in any way and we think there’s some other things that are in the pipeline that it’ll make it even more evident that (Pratt’s) influence around the place has been enormous.[quote]

You have to love that :-D

Yeah, well done to Swann and his crew.
A successful AFL club needs lots of $'s these days and now it's starting to flow in. Good stuff! :-D

And in any event, have we ever been sponsored by the best companies? AVCO? Hyundai? Mayne? Pfft, who cares how luxurious or first class our sponsor is, what matters is we have some serious coin in the bank for the next 3 yars.

Having flown Emirates for ten years, amongst many other airlines, I can tell you they are the best in the world compared to most I've been on.

As for Hyundai being our sponsor, it's an outstanding association on at least two levels:

1. It is a global brand, with a rapidly developing reputation for quality.

2. Hyundai are emerging as an enviromentally friendly manufacturer, which links in very well with the corporate path our club is choosing to tread.

Optus and Visy are nationally dominant corporate entities, so further enhance our club's reputation as an organisation to be associated with. Optus maybe behind Telstra in market share, but Telstra are sponsoring the AFL, so are not available, and I'd much rather have Optus than any other telco.

The breathtaking ignorance of those who condemn the new deals never ceases to amaze me.

Melvey you are a dill. I thought you had calmed down after all the rubbish you spouted about Judd not coming to CFC? Guess what? he's here. Now our sponosorships arent good enough. Guess what dilbury their money is the same color as collingwoods sponsors and worth the same value too.

In case you dont know what that means, it means a million dollar sponsorship that Cwood get is worth the same as a million dollar sponsorship Carlton gets.

Firstly we're in a lot better position last year (that's addressed specifically to Melvey).

The other thing you have to remember is that while some changes have been made, there are still alot to go. We have Pratt (best president in the AFL), but he hasn't yet brought in some the people he needs, the people we need, the people the club need. When Pratt brings in people with real star quality, and he will, we'll be able to compete with Collingwood for sponsors like Emirates. There's only so much Pratt could do this year, there was alot of mess. This included fixing up footy department, getting Swann, restructuring debt, etc. So overall the club has done fantastically. And When Pratt puts onto the board people like Waislitz and Mcmullin at Collingwood, the guys that can get these Emirates like sponsorship deals done (and they're coming on shortly), we'll have even bigger sponsorships. In the meantime, I'm quite happy with 5 million over 2 years. :-D

Awesome news!

Don't know why any Carlton supporter would care how good a car Hyundai make. They're paying us a shit load of money to be a walking billboard.

Unfortunately I have to buy second hand cars (can't afford the new models!). Anyway, I went to the UK to live for a little bit, and came back in 2001 and bought a car. At the time the second-hand Hyundais were flooding the used car market, and they were usually the cheapest things available.

I bought my next second hand car this year... and the thing which interested me when I was looking was just how much the resale value of second hand Hyundais had increased. They certainly weren't the cheapest models out there, and the car yards were talking them up as good product (contrary to belief they won't do that about all models and makes).

So I think there has been a shift in perceptions of quality surrounding the Hyundai.

Anyway, who cares? It's a big sponsorship, and we are well and truly back on track. I'm pretty sure that's all that matters!!!

Please tell me you are not serious.

Just because you re-brand something does not make you automatically more pretigious.

I know that Lexus=Toyota.. but why do people pay the extra $$$$$$

FOR PRESTIGE AND DEEMED QUALITY...............

That's why Hyundai paid the extra dollars to sponser us. The biggest sponsorship going around to be associated with a club which has plenty of Prestige and Deemed Quality.
