We won 3 flags in 4 years with a nucleous of these boys - (arguably one of the best sides ever - but never got the recognition it deserved because Tom Prior (Chief Writer at The Sun) was a mad, jealous and vindictive Essendon* supporter.

It wasn't till Kevin Sheedy found a way around this mosquito fleet - which was getting Steven Carey to knock out Alex Marcou (regularly  ) that sides moved from the Mosquito Fleet model and went back to tougher bigger bodied types.

none of them would've got a touch without Fitzy feeding them :)

I'm a Fitzy fan as well. He did make them stand a little taller.

But Fitzy did the unselfish stuff like playing at CHF all day in the 1982 Grand Final - whilst Wow Jones intimidated the crap out of Mark Lee.

:)

Lets hope that mindset is still prevalent in his current position.

Totallly agree bout the Tom Prior comment, was the Fatprick Smith of his day.

Loved the Mosquito Fleet, not only were they ultra skillful, Marcou and the Cat aside, they were tough mean b*stards when they had to be...

Sheedy picking off Marcou as a coach was also just following his old habits at Ninthmond as a player, the amount of crude rubbish Armstrong and the other small guys used to get in the seventies was astounding..

Oops - I missed Trevor Keogh and Barry Armstrong - they both played their parts in 1979.

Armstrong was slightly taller at an even 6foot (183cm).

But everytime we played Essendon* in the early to mid 80s - you could bank on either Alex Marcou or David Glasscott being carried off on a stretcher thanks to their gang of thugs led by Stephen Carey.

Tom Prior was an old cantankerous C#$T - who never gave Carlton good copy during those years - as it used to shit him that Essendon* always beat Carlton (thanks to thuggery) but Essendon* used to choke in the Elimation Finals.

Prior even ran with a story that on the eve of the 1982 Grand Final that Parkin was coaching his last game - and that he was going to sign up and coach Collingwood immediately after the 1982 Grand Final.

He went at it hammer and tongs with his lacky Lou Richards (who he did all the ghost writing for) - until Carlton renegotiated and extended Parkin's contract during Grand Final Week.

Prior tried everything to destablise and ruin our chances - the old TURD.

The Mosquito Fleet; what a beautiful set of numbers. Great memories AGRO (beautiful entertainment).

I suppose the Blues, circa 2008, will be the Meat Eating Mosquitos (MEM)...given it's politically incorrect to call them Mozzies on Roids (MOR)

Anyway here's our 2008 MOR fleet:

190 Judd
190 Hadley
190 Walker
190 Grigg
190 Benjamin
190 Bannister
188 Gibbs
188 Russell
188 Jackson
188 Anderson
187 Carrazzo
187 Houlihan
184 Bentick

...but we still have a Mozzie (fleet) brigade (MB):

Stevens
Murphy
Simpson
Scotland

...jury is out on:

Wiggins (MOR)
Blackwell (MB)
Betts (MB)

With draft, rookies, int rookies yet to be announced.

There's a bit of depth in small and tall mids...with skill, and height, and pace, and most important, in the right jumper.

Hey, would Aisake, Kruezer and Hampson be classified as 'Monster' mids and Waite, Bower, Edwards and Fisher as 'giant' mids?

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Oh Mr (Ron) Evans...what have you created?

Whatever it is, it's about to backfire on you. You can hide, but you can't run.

The Baby Blues are a comin', bigger and better than your wildest dreams!

Boo
