Caro has copped an unmeciful bagging on TC , with each Carlton article she has written. While I've also been critical of her , I've had a bit of a rethink.

Most if not all of what she writes is probably accurate, albeit with a bit of venom added for good measure.
What I would love to see would be an article by her, doing a critique on the running of the Richmond footy club during her dad's tenure as elsupremo of the Tigers.
Then compare their operational ''style'' to that of Carlton.
Even allowing for her supposed anti Carlton agenda it would probably be balanced and a pretty interesting read. (Ian wilson took no prisoners and pioneered the ''them against us''mentality that made the Tigers so successful)

Like her I have agendas, though mine are anti Collingwood and Essendon*
and Caro's tiggers.
Such an article will probably never be written, but it would be very interesting to see how she went about it.

Don't expect a massive wave of support on this one mate.

Her agenda is to be a good journalist. This she does very well.

Any venom or other agendas exist mainly in the biased heads of unobjective readers.

You'll get no argument from me murraycray. The abuse direct at Fatprick Smith is warranted though

Never heard her attacking Ron Evans to the same level she has attacked Richard Pratt on his suitability to lead a football club.

The problem with Caroline Wilson - to be a good journalist you need good sources/leaks - so she compromises herself by never biting the hand that feeds her.

Look, I reckon if I was a journo writing about Carlton over the lat 6 years I'd be happy if my articles were like hers. And she did have a go about Ron Evans early on.

There have been many articles by Wilson which are negative towards Richmond, particularly in relation to Greg Miller and the Clinton Casey years.

The reality is Koutoufides' book was published when very little other footy news was about, so it naturally attracted just about every AFL jounalist's attention.

I've never bought into the great Caro debate, but I will now. I disagree with the above statement entirely.

Caro is nothing better than a gossip columnist for football. She writes some good stories and a lot of tripe. She is very readable, no matter what she writes, because she likes the "sexy" stories. She gets some good info, but extrapolates a lot for the sake of a headline. She effectively creates tabloid journalism for the broadsheet paper.

Whilst I agree that Carlton has been a ready made and easy target over the past few years, I have two major problems with her:

1. Her anti-Carlton agenda was never more apparent than when she was the beneficiary of the numerous leaks from one particular female former board member of the Blues - when she was outed (at least in the general populace, if not the paper), Caro came out with the big fluff piece on this person being the "brave person of the Carlton football club", without actually revealing she was just the leaker of a lot of damaging stories. It was prejudiced, self-serving and outright crap;

2. Richmond - with the exception of her anti-Greg Miller stance and anti-Wayne Johnston campaign, Caroline never has a disparaging word about her poor excuse for a football club.

Caro is worse than most journos that support football. She actually denies that her allegiance to Richmond clouds her judgment. Most other journos at least would acknowledge their prejudices.

Can't pick a hole in these paragraphs.

I have no problem with Caro writing negative articles about Carlton. God knows we've given her and everyone else plenty of ammo the last 5-6 years.

What riles me with her is the fact that she can't resist taking personal, unnecessary shots at the club during those articles that have nothing to do with the subject matter, eg pulling out a tanking line when taking her shot at Kouta. It's at times like this where she shows that no matter how high she flies her 'hard but fair' flag for all to see, she reveals herself as daddy's little girl and simply can't help herself when it comes to the club he hated most.

If she didn't show this weakness time and again, she would be a fine journo. She's got an excellent writing style, and has brought some great stories to light.

On 3AW she asked that "working class millionaire" David Smorgan from the Bull-dogs if he would feel comfortable sitting along side Richard Pratt at a Presidents' meeting Reckon he'd be ok with it, maybe not so a 17 year old kid drafted sitting along side Kerr, Fletcher, Didak , however.
Build a bridge and get over it Caro :CASE IS CLOSED FINE IS PAID!
Shame she never asked Smorgan about how with all 2006's optimism the Dogs only got 28k members and why he blames the coach he re-signed only last season for their crap 2007. As Brad Hardie said Smorgan still blames the culture, but he's been President for ten years.
Since she gave Miller's heart a pulse she's let up on him, which is sweet really.
