When a giant is lying down, the nit picking people around him can reach his eyes, his ears. nose and mouth, or whatever other sensetive part they want to choose to pinch, hurt and otherwise irritate him, causing pain annoyance and general misery.

However, when he starts to stand up, he suddenly becomes very tall, far bigger than his tormentors.

The nitpickers that looked so big when he was on the ground are now nothing more than anklebiters, upon whom he can stomp if he wishes.

The article states "shifting the blame Carltons biggest flaw" he was right, but in the wrong way.
Carlton board, Coach and the journos during the last 5 years were all blaming the players and quality of the list rather than Pagan. So in one comment made by Kouta, we are all to believe that all the blame for our incipid performances is shifted to the coach?
Sorry I don't buy it one bit, our biggest problem was that our Coach was always shifting the blame onto our young and dispirited players - "were young - we'll learn from that- give me (insert name) and I'll give you wins - we butchered the ball - ran out of legs" etc

The players must and have taken some responsibility for the poor performances, but so far THEY HAVE TAKEN ALL THE BLAME by the media, previous boards and general public. How do you put all the blame on the players for being young (pagan fired or pi55ed of our experienced players) butchering the ball (coach teaches skills last time I checked) failing to learn (inflexible coach not allowing players to express opinions) not fit enough to run out games (extremely poor use of interchange bench) no confidence or pride (publicly admiring opposition players straight after defeat).

The coach is responsible for creating the framework for players to do their job, and doing so forms the foundation of the culture of the club. If a coach cannot unify a group of players into a team, have a gameplan that suits that team and comminicate so the team understands and belives in the gameplan, then he has failed at the most basic of fundementals. What is so remarkable about Pagan is that he has failed for 5 years to create a possitive culture and yet he has never been challenged or criticized for failing to do so. And so with Trevor Grants article, the players are basted once again and yet Pagan still manages to escape his responsibilty for his role in Carltons performances.
