possibly thornton if they think we need someone from the back half though I'm not a huge fan of his leadership qualities

is that the same Bret Thornton who bemoans his teammates every time his opponent outmarks him?

And then take your pick amongst about 10 players.

A druken, abusive fool who is on his last chance with the club..... i doubt he would be considered, lucky to still be at the club.

1. JUDD... (a given; leads by example; done it all; players in awe)
2. STEVENS... (shows leadership; embraces the kids; wants to lead))
3. CARRAZZO... (dedicated persistent pauper to prince; role model for kids; articulate; BnF)
4. SIMPSON...(great leader as stand in captain; fearless; committed; consistent; another pauper to prince; good role model)
5. WALKER...(pasionate; consistent; fearless; takes on the game; ready to take next step; Pagan stopped his quest for leaders role in '07...bc too emotional)

Then for number 6.....

SCOTLAND...(strong; experienced; fearless; too much baggage; on a suspended sentence)
SETANTA...(still learning the game)
FISHER...(don't know)
THORNTON...(history against him; below par 2008; perhaps backline leader)
HOULIHAN...(maybe; it's not about what leadership can do for him, it's about what he can do as leader for the team)

I'd say Leader number 6 is between the following 3 (FEVOLA, WAITE or MURPHY)

6. FEVOLA...(obvious leadership qualities & should be a leader, but let down by too much baggage; has he turned his attitude around? are team mates convinced?)

or

6...WAITE...(admired by his teammates; leads by example; still stepping up to elite level; previously selected to captain)

or

6...MURPHY...(born leader; determination; commitment; fearless; admired; still young & developing)

I guess the team know better and will choose their own 6th leader from the above 3. I'd hope that they will lean towards FEVOLA in belief that the team believe he's turned things around and settled in the last 2 months, although that depends on them being convinced in such a short time, that he's a bit different this time round than anything they've experienced in the past. I doubt it, because Fev is Fev, an individual, a character, one of a Kind, with child like qualities. My opinion relies on the teams feelings and they will vote according to their feelings towards him.

It's a new team in 2008...anything can happen. I can see why selecting Fev is a bit risky...are the players willing to risk the image of their newfound charter.

All supporters should draw a line in the sand and leave the past behind; I really believe there will be a huge shift in attitude, committment and courage shown by the Baby Blues and it's sprinkling of seasoned players.

My punt, if not FEV, then it is WAITE.

Perfect Hornet i reckon you got it spot on.

Stevens (c)
Simpson (vc)
Waite (vc)
Judd
Fevola
Murphy

Stevo (c) because he wants it bad and there is nothing better than someone wanting to lead the blues.

Simpson & Waite (vice captains) both led the team last year and did a respectful job and lead by the way they play.

Judd, Murphy and Fevola round it out. Fevola will grow up and stand up now with Judd around and Stevo back playing i think big things will come of Fev this year.

Scotland may be another possibility, consistent player who has experience.

I vote definately NO to Houlahan

Does anyone see ordan Russel in the mix. I have read reports that he is a natural leader and at training he stands out as a leader. His downfall might be that he has not cemented a spot in the starting 22 yet, but i can see some sense in it.

What are your thoughts?

I'd rather our players learn to keep their feet.

Kept his feet OK when John Nicholls put that medal around his neck.

GWS, are we taking about our current B&F winner (top 10 2005 too) who is a "gut runner", role model and bleeds Navy Blue?

Gimme a break.

Nice work Blues Clues....what more does this kid need to do to get the recognition he so rightly deserves. :x It seems once a rookie, always a rookie!

I think Carrazzo will enjoy being sandwiched in between Judd & Stevens.

Carrazzo will be the toast of that leadership group

Leading by example is Carrazzo's bread and butter

Carrazzo has improved so much he might get tagged by Baker

Carrazzo's year last year was the best thing since sliced bread

Word is that if he wanted to switch codes, that Brumbie's would be interested in him

His work ethic proves he's not a loafer

Ok - carry on now...

But what about the deputy vice vice captains?

Judd.

Just make him skipper. It's not like him not being captain will take the heat off him...

Juddy doesn't need the be given the title of Leader - he'll do it anyway - i would have him in the group, but not a captain or vice captain. Stevo does want it so i'd give it to him se as not to upset the apple cart, which i think Ratts will like the sound of. Although i was a bit concerned by a really novel thing, when Stevo was interviewed on Before The Game (maybe a year, year and a half ago) by Hughsey about the history of the club, he only got 2/10 questions right so hopefully he has scrubbed up on the knowledge of the club.

would NOT have scotland. Would have murphy. Risky to have FEV, especially if he has another little episode, although hopefully stevo will straighten him out. Best of luck to whoever gets in.
