No one buys the age because it's shite. They hardly even have a sports section.

A lot of the figures with newspaper 'sales' are inflated by free copies they give out to students, teachers and the like... The Age is getting in on it, but the Hun are masters at inflating their figures to prove a (meaningless) point.

Good to know you know what it takes to make a quality newspaper...

Andain... In what way has The Age in your words"blown past" the Herald Sun? That is just an uneducated, ridiculos comment. The Sunday Herald Sun sells 623,000 copies. The Sunday Age only 200,500. Mon-Sat is a similar margin. The Herald Sun in the number 3 brand in Vic behind only Cadbury and Bunnings. The Age is no.18. The Herald Sun is also the no.1 media brand in Vic. The Age is no.6. In all states except Vic the ABC is no. 1. The Herald Sun has won more PANPA awards than another newspaper in the in the Pacific Region. It is also the newspaper of the AFL. Jon Ralph had an opinion and was looking for a bite. Well done Andain. You gave him his wish.

Rhianna was also number 1 on the ARIA charts for multiple weeks with Umbrella.

FACT.

Oh do forgive us for laughing off your retort, given the Herald Sun gets most of its accurate Carlton material from this very site, and its inaccurate info from BigFooty...

The Herald Sun is popular because it is populist.

To use circulation figures as evidence of quality is insane. Under those criteria, McDonalds sells the world's finest food.

Reading some those these posts, I actually had to go back to the first post to see what the thread is about.

FWIW I thpught that Jon Ralph's headline after reading the story related to the Kouta piece, which really casts the club in a very bad light.

He was saying that the club starts anew today and that there are no more excuses for the pathetic seasons we have had.

As much as people bag the Hun, a lot of people still read it - it doesn't mean its brilliant or that the figures that Ratts to Rule quoted are inflated - people enjoy reading it and should not be made to feel like Philistine’s for liking it.

I also read the Aged newspaper - sometimes their stories are good and sometimes they are a crap.

Yep, sound about right to me.
I must admit, I usually enjoy the Hun sports section.

While it has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand , an article by Simon Webster in yesterdays Sydney paper, The Sun Herald , was hilarious. On page 54 it referred to Kevin Rudd apparently eating his ear wax!!
Funniest thing I've read in a while.
But like Jon Ralph's article, we shouldn't spend too much time worrying about it.
Although in KEVIN 07's case...................?

The thing that pisses me off is the way all media focus on the 'tanking' issue without talking about how we were stiffed mid-way through 2006 when the AFL changed the PP rules  .

That decision alone justifies tanking.

It's not so much what they write but what they don't.

QFT

Anyone who believes Audited Circ figures are accurate and not manipulated is certifiably insane.

In essence I think Jon has it pretty much right re the players. Time to stop whinging and making excuses. Time to stand up and be counted. Time to start playing to thier potential. At times over the past few years the playing group has been disgrace on the field. The games against North and Richmond a couple of years ago are still seared in my memory and feature in my nightmares. I do not mind being beaten and will accept the occassional shocker but a continued lack of effort is inexcusable.

That said I do think the current group has the makings of a very, very good side definately top 4 within a couple of years.
