We may be a big team in Perth, but how about actual numbers of supporters? What's the realistic size of the market there which justifies 2 matches year in, year out? I'm betting not as big as Sydney.

The generic market may not be as large, but the actual market (ie. those willing to put their hands in their pockets) is probably comparable, or larger in Perth.

My gut instinct would tell me otherwise.

Either way, my other point stands: that Carlton is a nationwide big brand, and as one of the Big 3 teams, we should get a guaranteed match here every season, just as the other 2 of the 3 do. Even if that match is the Nth Sydney preseason, or Who Cares Cup match.

Stuff the AFL, when will they ever get the draw right?

We want football 45 weeks of the year, that way we play every team 3 times and we also get 7 weeks of training reports from Frank.

It's just as well the club has most likely done some actual research then. ;)

Besides, what we want is irrelevant. As we know, the AFL controls the draw.

KK I think you vastly underestimate the amount of support we have in Perth. Given its an AFL city and Sydney isn't, our support there would have to be higher.

sticksafterthesiren may be able to confirm how hard the club petitions to have 2 games there, but given the fact we seem to do so would indicate the club thinks our support there is higher also.

OK, I will concede that point for now. I'd like to see actual figures though.

Regardless, trying for a regular match up here every year, even if it's a practice match or Wizzie Cup match should be on the Club's agenda.

It is in Carlton's interest not to concede Sydney (And Canberra) to Collingwood and Essendon*.

I fail to see how that could be argued with.

Yep, worst case a Mickey Mouse Cup game should be played. Hey, they could even play that one in Canberra.

Haven't read the other 4 pages, but how does everyone feel about the draw?

Apart from KK, who thinks we should play 22 games in Sydney, everyone is pretty happy.

I'm more in favour of the Big Jack model: 11 home matches in Melbourne, 11 Away matches in Sydney. Who could ask for anything more?

I reckon there's more Carlton supporters in Sydney than Swans supporters.

Proper supporters, not people who just go for them because they're the locals.

Eliot, Mark, Sydney, Deano, me...5.

Yep, definitely more.

After all the bad times we have been through, we are now in a period where Carlton will be experiencing a great deal of good fortune - as evidenced by a draw which has only 4 interstate trips.

The draw shows us we are back as a power - a draw the equal of anyone and we are now back in the company of the power Melbourne clubs - How big will be round one be against the Tigers with the Juddster Stevens and hollywood fevola
By the way looking forward to avenging a huge loss this year in round 22 against the club with the suspect culture
Mjonc thanks for the kind words -you wont believe it but was at PP for training today but regrettably was an hour early -absolute disaster

Is there some imaginary race between Carl Ess and Coll for the Sydney market that we haven't heard about. KK, I usually like your stuff but this is way off.

There will be no market in Sydney. The Swans obviously have a fair share of the market and the AFL is committed to a 2nd team in West Sydney in the next 5-10 years, which WON'T BE CARLTON. So the market will be saturated.

Therefore, it might be important for you personally, but to paint this as an important issue for the CFC is rubbish. It's irrelevant to Carlton whether we play 1 or 0 games in Sydney.
