Just repeating this from the previous page so casual readers can see it.

Fair bit of news to report.

1. The articles are coming thick and fast (the Blueseum just notched up its 40th article!).

The two new ones are:
60th Anniversary of historic Brownlow Medal count

Clen Denning's Unique Record

2. The Blueseum has just notched up its 2000th picture in the picture gallery!

3. Despatch from the Blueseum troops is that the Rosstown Hotel on the corner of Koornang and Dandenong Roads in Carnegie, Melbourne has a photo of the 1925 team hanging on their wall. If any brave soul could venture down to this pub and get a good quality, high resolution photo of this picture and send it to the Blueseum that would be great. :-D

Bit more multimedia content on the Blueseum now.

Can one of the Blueseum crew do an investigation into the crime that is Blue is our colour?

And track down all the guilty parties down and kill them slowly and painfully.....

I've still got the cassette. :P

What era was that one from BlueIce?

I can only remember the 'We are the Navy Blues....who-oh-oh-oh-ohhhh' which was probably early 1990's given that's the time I really came to football. It was a very John Farnham-esque type tune....is that the same one?

The cassette says 1990, so it was probably a two for one deal since the sing is as corny as John Farnham's best.

The players are singing it.

I found an MP3 file on the downloads page on the CSC. :-D

Blue is the Colour, is one of the the theme songs for Chelsea soccer
club in England.
It was aquired by Carlton, and the words changed. It was then put on a cassette sung by the players.
It was sent out in 1999 by the club as part of a promotional members drive.
I have an original cassettee.

It is quite a good stirring theme.
The cassettee version is is not the best, as the lyrics are a bit hard to pick up.

This is the Cassettee.
It is the B side.
The A side has a tune called How Blue are you.
Written and performed by Oscar Swarv.

Correction
It was actually sent in 1990 when things were going bad at Carlton,
and the membership was way down.

Part of the Lyrics of the lyrics of the "How Blue are you" are
"In 87 we took out the flag, but so many members were lost"

http://www.blueseum.org/cfc/tiki-index.php?page=1990

The 2000's were not the only turbulent years for Carlton.

The idea of " Blue is the colour" was lifted straight from Chelsea.

As that Club did, our own players were recorded for the song.

Around 1976 if i remember correctly.

Have put together a page which includes links to all those guys someone has taken the effort to put together a page for, yet never played for the Blues.

Some absolute trivia gems in here- Thorpe, Matthews, Tuddenham and a few others you may have to really think back to remember.

Yep I remember it being played after winning games in the late 70s at Princes Park - of course they played our traditional theme song first.

I think it was a subtle (maybe not too subtle) push to try and generate a bit of a groundswell of support to update our club song.

"We are the Navy Blues", to the tune of Lou Gramm's "Midnight Blue" bobbed up around the mid '90's. Used to be played whilst the players were warming up (i.e. immediately preceding the start of the match).

There was also the 'Blues Brothers' who used to come out before each game, certainly throughout '95 and occasionally later on.

couldn't find anywhere on the site to talk about our old heroes. I'm sure I've probably started an unnecessary thread, but someone will move it to where it should be.

i went to the blueseum for the first time today and it is an absolute credit to whoever created it. i could spend days in there.

anyway stumbled upon Mike Fitzpatrick

Fitzy was in his last year at Churchlands High School when i was in my first. He was playing for Subiaco in the WAFL and I was in awe of him.

I was an u/14s ruckman and i barracked for Subi, so naturally he became my favourite player. I remember the 1973 WAFL Grand Final when we won our first premiership for 49 years - Fitzy just ripped it up all day. I swear he kicked a goal from almost wing about 20 metres from where i was standing, and seeing him leaping into the air grinning like a madman in absolute joy is still a cherished memory.

At that time i didn't really follow the VFL, coz the WAFL was still of a high standard and crowds were good, so it was still exciting. Not like it is now, friends and relations only.

Anyway when Fitzy moved to Victoria i became a passionate Carlton supporter and have been ever since. It was such a buzz to have been able to follow his whole career from schoolboy footy, to WAFL premiership, to the captain of Carlton holding up the big silver cup on the last Saturday in September (twice).

Even if the second half was only on tv :)

It was written for Chelsea's FA Cup victory in 1970, iirc.

Blue is the Colour was rewritten for the b-side of the We Are the Navy Blues 45 vinyl. I've got it in a box somewhere. I'll try and root it out. I remember being very tiny and replaying it incessently on the turntable.

Blue is the colour
Football is the game
We're all together
And winning is our aim

(or was it- And Carlton is our name?)

Over the next 24 hours or so the Blueseum should register its 100,000th view of the Home Page. I know other sites have very big traffic and this may look small in comparison, but the Blueseum has come a long way and by hitting 100,000 we are demonstrating real relevance - and some impressive growth rates in recent months.

Make sure to have a shandy or two to recognise the milestone!
