Lyon was in an invidious situation there.....he was asked to virtually sit in on the "interview" only because he was Judd's favourite player as a Melbourne F.C. supporting schoolboy.

wasnt he also on the panel to help select a coach ??

was that because all the coaching candidates had lyon as their favourite player too ??

i know i've just about done this to death but i really hope stevens gets the captaincy. it doesn't say much for our club when someone can just walk in and be captain when there is another bloke who has busted a gut for this club for almost 5 seasons. someone who all the younger blokes, when interviewed, always speak glowingly of in terms of their personal development, someone who's been able to step up in matches where we've needed him to. like i do with every decision the club makes, i'll support the appointment of whoever we choose (heck i even did with whitnall last year when i strongly opposed his appointment) and at least he'll beat the previous holder of the position. i don't see anything about judd that suggests he'll be a good leader apart from all the magical things he does himself and it's been well documented that he wasn't entirely keen on taking on the wc captaincy (now that might have been because he wanted to return to vic). yes he's as inspirational as anyone and will always step up whenever we need him and will always be a perfect role model but i'd rather stevens just to restore a bit of pride and because i think he'd make a better captain. but like i said, i'll support whoever we choose.

I just found out with my last post that you couldn't post the words Dick and Head joined together.

I wonder what other words aren't we allowed to use...apart from the real obvious ones? 8)

no not just to restore it, but don't you think we'd be losing a little bit of pride if someone who has done nothing for our club so far is just made captain? i dunno, maybe i'm the only person who sees it this way and it just isn't the case but i feel you should have to earn the greatest position in australian sport.

and if your money is on judd, i'll be even surer that we're going to name him as our captain.

Both Stevens and Judd have to get over their fitness problems. Both have positive diagnosis' but we'll just have to wait and see.

When our players are out on the field the person who they will look to to lead by example should be captain. I respect Nick Stevens coming to Carlton and his subsequent service, but on what I think is the main critera for a captain, I think Judd is the player who will do the job with the ball in his hands.

If Judd feels comfortable in the playing group, I think he will take on the job if he is nominated.

I agree Vint. If Judd wants it then he can have it. It may seem strange now but by mid season 08 it will seem normal. By 09' and 10' it will feel completely natural.
