Would've burnt a few bridges at Carlton with his conduct of the last few days Id've thought.

I watched that too, he admitted Lance's knee was stuffed but said he could still play as a full forward because you don't have to run as much in that position....

You don't have to run as much in retirement either.

Shame the Cousins thing didn't happen last week. We could have Traded Lance instead of JK. After all, it's obvious he's not on any performance enhancers.... 8)

Wouldn't Josh have grounds to have his contract terminated based on today's events? If so, don't be surprised if Swann is in his ear as we speak ;)

WOW - that must have come as a complete surprise to Ricky. Adelaide is a club which has acknowledged it desperately needs a full forward has ruled themselves out of going after lance - i wonder why? Hey Ricky tell them again that he doesn't need to be able to run that much to play.

seriously both lance and ricky are clutching at straws and trying to cling on to a false reality. Sad that it has come to this.

Ricky Nixon is blaming everybody for Lance's exit from the game...

Praps he should consider his own role in basic player management throughout the years.

As his manager, did he ever tap Homer on the shoulder, tell him to stay off the donuts, and turn up fit pre-season?

Did he ever tap Homer on the shoulder and suggest keeping is family fights out of the media, instead of arranging press conferences for Homer to shine in...??

Did he ever tap Homer on the shoulder to point out the deal he was on, his role within the club as captain and his role with the team as a senior player...??

Ricky was earning a nice commission off $500,000 a season which has suddenly vanished - yet, according to him in recent days - he didn't see it coming and Carlton have behaved badly in this.

Could any other player manager be more stupid than this guy??

On the money!

And don't forget the one where Ricky forgot to tell Lance to take a watch with him if he's going out drinking late at night with new recruits.

there is nothing ugly than seeing people personally attack a player and make fun of them , footy might be a business these days, but Carlton does not backstab the people that once made it what it is today :(

There is nothing worse than a player (and his manager) taking the mickey out of the club...

Time for Lance to get real....

Look Dodo, Lance has copped his fair share over the years, he has a pretty thick skin...

If you're talking about "pinchable inches!"

[quote]The Carlton Football Club has confirmed that after much deliberation Lance Whitnall will not be offered a new playing contract in 2008.

“This has been a very tough decision for everyone and there is no doubt the degenerative knee injury that has restricted Lance’s preparation for games has impacted on the decision. It is very disappointing for Lance and for the Club that his playing career at Carlton has ended earlier than we had all hoped,â€

From the article:

Quote:
"There are age and fitness concerns with Lance," Power football operations manager Peter Rohde said.

"Given where our list is at (with youth), he's not the type of person we want to bring into our group at this stage."

Interesting how he is not refered to as a PLAYER....

There's some real positives to come out of this whole sorry saga.
An impeccable source tells me Kernahan is extremely pissed about the decision and the way it was handled.
Thankfully it appears that-

1. Swann, Ratten, Icke and co. are making decisions in the best interests of Carlton Football club without fear or favours.

2. the days of Sticks ruling the roost appear to be diminishing.

I was going to say that we haven't heard a peep out of Sticks since he came out of OO and told the press that they had signed Ratts as coach. From the looks of it, he played no part in the Judd deal either.

Good sign.

Great sign! :-D

If Sticks was still in control, Lance would be around, and Judd would be a Magpie

There is not much doubt that he should have been delisted, but I can't help but feel a little sad today for Lance.

Sure, no doubt Lance could have done a bit more to help himself in managing his injury, but he couldn't quite keep his demons at bay.

The club, I believe, have offered him a role in development and I hope he takes it up. It sounds a bit glib when you say he has a 'tremendous football brain', but he does and he would be a great asset to Carlton.

I don't know whether Lance reads these threads - he probably doesn't - but if I can indulge for a moment and express my regret that this had to happen. The way it was handled by the club was regrettable too. It has acknowledged that, thankfully.

Whatever you choose to do Lance, just know that it was a privledge to watch you play and my memories of your days are fond. I hope I speak for lots of people.

Good Luck. My thoughts are with you.

No wonder we were shit for the last 7 years.
Hopefully Kernahan doesn't get within sniff of making another decision for the carlton footy club
