Surely to some extent the performance (no pun intended) of these fitness guys is limited to some extent by our facilities? What did Ford do that was so poor that he has been offloaded so quickly? Or is it more a case of getting a superior conditioning person? How is this judged anyway? How can you compare the performance of the Australian Cricket team to the output you are looking for? I don't really understand this. Not being critical, just looking for information that would allay my concern that we have gone for a "name" rather than someone with a proven record in speed/endurance sports like AFL. Eg: had we picked someone from Man United I'd be pretty pleased because they are a world class outfit in a sport that demands similar running conditioning. But cricket? Why are we so excited about this?

He's worked with AFL clubs in the past before he took the position with Cricket Australia.

You're joking aren't you?? Couldn't me further from the truth. Michael Carrick (Man U midfielder spent 90 minutes on pitch last week and totaled 11 kms. Ricky Ponting fielding for 50 overs against India on the same day - 17 kms.

Haha, that's a bit different. That 17kms would consist of alot of running between overs. It's also more anaerobic (if I'm not mistaken) - ie; you go hard to chase a ball, then you have a break. Not necessarily the 17kms you want for footy. Ponting also had more than twice the amount of time (224mins) running.

It's still an impressive stat though - and your point definitely holds some weight.

a great litmus test will be the fitness of adam hartlett -- god knows we need him to stand up this year--can cordy finally get him fit & firing so harts can have an unobstructed 2008?

Fair call that, let's hope he's not on the Shane Watson scale of hamstring tightness.

Cordy has to have the tricks & Hartlett has to have the smarts. A great test for both.

Carlton Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach, Noel McCarthy will coordinate the first period of the Blues' pre-season training campaign, before recently appointed High Performance Manager Justin Cordy begins in early November.

Carlton, once the pauper, is leading the way on the inflationary spiral. If the Blues, with the clout of billionaire Dick Pratt, want their man, they get him.

Justin Cordy, ex-Bulldogs and Cricket Australia fitness man, was appointed last week. He is highly regarded and the Blues were not alone in chasing him.

The hired gun didn't come cheaply. The buzz in the industry is the Blues were prepared to pay as much as $300,000 a year for him.

We really have come a long way in the off-field stakes if we can afford to thow that sort of coin around.

As an aside, a salary cap for football department expenditure is a ridiculous idea. If it gets to that point then pack it up, it's over. May as well skip the season and just hand the flag on to the next club in the alphabet on the last Saturday in Sempteber.

Imagine what he can add to our big athletic boys over the next 5 months:

Aisake
Hampson
Setanta

...and what about Hartlett, Jamison, Bower, Austin and Jacobs too?

If they can be developed faster and more scientifically (than in the past), their potential will be expedited twofold. If so, these guys will change the on field face (look, feel and game plan) of Carlton FC.

If he can improve Fisher, Fev and Waite 5% as well too.... :-D

I"M EXCITED!
