Does anyone see the similarity between the manner in which Carlton is building its list and St Kilda went about building its list ABOUT 6-7 years ago - Picked up various early draft picks Riewoldt Kozzie Ball CLARKE goddard and then picked up a couple of mid age players Gehrig and Hamill - in our case walker gibbs murphy cruise missile and then got two 24 year olds in THE JUDDSTER and Hadley .
Forget about the fact that none of us like the saints but the methodology seems to be somewhat similar
The saints whilst not having the ultimate success did have some successful years in playing in finals until this year

I can buy the latest and greatest model car from my local hobby shop, but if I've never put one together before it probably won't look very good.

But if I had some previous experience of building similar models, it'd probably look great.

;)

I'd like to think we would learn from their mistakes...dont ignore the ruck position, ruckman are important despite what Grant Thomas thinks, and they also have struggled to develop key position backs after Luke Penny decided he had better things to do than play football. They foolishly topped up with dud players like McGough and had an absurd rotation of captains.
I agree our early draft picks mirror their rebuilding but there are plentty of negatives about Stkilda and I woul be looking at West Coast, Geelong etc as clubs to follow in terms of buildinga premiership team...even Hawthorn have show more than Stkilda in terms of getting it right IMHO....

they certainly made mistakes and Thomas may have been the problem -particularly the ruck - as we know this area is one of our geatest deficiencies -however they were not far off it -still think they should have won 2005 prelim against swans
Due to our circumstances ie down the bottom for 5 years we have replicated aints model - but see what you mean as to aspiring to processes of eagles and cats

Yeah Thomas was a dooche! you could of given that side to Tony Shaw and he would have got better results  What the flower was he thinking with the captaicy rotations? They would have been better off rotating coaches IMO.

The difference being that a side of character and class would have used this as motivation for getting the job done the following year.

But it is St. Kilda you are talking about here - "sad and sorry history".

Oops - beg your pardon "sad and sorry history" I believe was attributed to the Bulldogs.

I think St. Kilda are just plain SHIT!!!!!!

so who gets it next year? Chris or Nick?!

I just hope that we beyond-emulate the StKFC model and win a flag with it!

frank,

I really do not think the St Kilda model was model to begin with.

When they got Revolt and Kosi they were terrible, I think they only won 2 games for the year.

Carlton on the other hand had taken that to a new level, we have been terrible for an extended period and despite draft penalties and changes to priority pick rules we have gained three number one picks and a number 2.

Even St Kilda never cam close to that.

On top of that, at the end of this terrible period we have recruited the player many consider to be the best of the modern era.

So when you compare us to the St Kilda model.

They actually have had less elite picks in such a short time and the recruits they got at the end of that period were at the time not considered to be as important as ours.

So on two counts we trump the St Kilda 'model'.

But to digress I don't think it is a model regardless it is just the way things have happened.

The really hard work from now on end is going to to be finding those 6 or 7 good ordinary players who can tip the club over the edge for a premiership or two in the next few years.

Of course hard work and lady luck will also play their parts.

Still nothing should be left to chance.
