A great career in the Navy Blue, including a Grand Final, Best and Fairest, leading goalkicker several times, and a great football brain.

But the time has come. Don't go the draft, Lance. Call it a day! Go gracefully, go with dignity, don't go like Woewoedin and the other hacks that went the PSD and weren't even taken up.

What makes you say the club couldn't tell him directlywhen the article says that Ratts and Icke told him before flying out to Europe?
The part that says Lance found out through his manager

From The Age: Axed Whitnall wants to play on
Emma Quayle and Karen Lyon wrote:
Whitnall said he was surprised by Ratten's decision but had no choice but to accept his fate. "It hasn't really sunk in at the moment; I only got the news late yesterday afternoon so it hasn't really sunk in, so I am a bit disappointed but that is football," he told Channel Nine.

"Brett Ratten sat down and he looked me in the eye and told me that is the way they are going to go and I couldn't argue, that was it."

This is perhaps the no.1 motivation for moving Lance on. Even IF his knee could maybe have stood the rigours of AFL, he had to go for the club to move to the next stage. Whilst we know he had had a bad knee for a number of years, I (and obviously the club) still can't reconcile how he turned up in such bad condition when he was appointed captain, then miraculously lost 6-7kgs with that same bad knee when he was effectively suspended. Perhaps it was the lack of accountability under Smorgon/Sticks/Pagan, but if Lance was a true professional he would have taken it upon himself to present in the best possible condition. Look at N.Buckley, even when Collingwood were much less professional in the 90's he presented in pristine condition - he has the right attitude. So I don't buy the argument that it was all due to his knees, because he proved he could slim down to a level that was required, albeit for a few months. And there are plenty of players in the league who have dodgy knees, shoulders, ankles that still look after themselves.

I wonder how many of the players would be lamenting the loss of Lance? Me thinks not many, particularly the young guys who do have a professional attitude and present themselves in the best condition they can.

As for Ricky Nixon, he still can't get over how we shipped him off to St.Kilda because he wasn't good enough as a player. I hope you read this forum Ricky, GET OVER IT!

It seems such a shame that Lance is listening too much to Nixon and can't think for himself. He should know he can't cut it anymore, how many times does he have to be told? And to top it off it seems he's happy to burn his bridges and tell us to @#$%&! off. There's still a place at Carlton for Lance, but if he keeps listening to flower Nixon he'll turn the club off him big time.

For God's sake Lance, bow out with dignity! Don't go down this road :(

It's pretty obvious, Carlton gave him a perfect scenario to retire and go out with honor. But he let himself and the club down too many times.

Having a dodgy knee didn't stop him from staying at a decent playing weight and being fit.

Some suggestions that any club doctor or physio would have told him a million times over are:
-Follow a stict diet.
-Do plenty of hydro therapy
-Lots of gym work
-Spend some time in the sauna
-Lots of low impact high resistance work (water and bike)

Sorry Lance, thanks for the good memories, but don't bite the hand that fed you for so long.

It was the right decision, how Lance manged to play with the knee the way it was, is amazing.

While he might be upset now, he knows it was the right call.

The last 12 months of the Lance saga was just a real shame and should never have happened in the first place. Just some monumental fu@#ups by certain individuals who seem to have moved aside thank goodness.

Well done Ratts.

Give Ricky enough rope and he'll do the rest.
Ricky, you don't need anyone to question your integrity, cos you prove time and time again all by yourself, that you don't have any.
You admitted yourself, that you want to 'flog a dead horse'.
Isn't there a law against false and misleading information.....you drip!

Had a good laugh when listening to that. Came across as a dodgy used car salesman sooking that we revealed publicly Lance's knee concerns and how how this would reduce his chances to continue his career

He must've realised about 30 seconds later how dodgy he sounded so he tried to back-peddle by saying the - "ofcourse they would fully disclose Lance's phyiscal condition to prospective clubs"

Like if we didn't mention it, no one else would know about it. Wasn't there some injury concerns about Judd? We still took a gamble.

Anyway, sorry to see Lance go. Hope it works out for him in whatever he chooses to do now.

Lance did well out of the club and if has invested his money wisely he should not have any complaints......
He underperformed IMHO and we didnt get full value for the money we paid over the journey and it was a good decision from Brett Ratten and Greg Swann and co not to renew his services. Lance and Nixon should have been planning the next stage of his career/life earlier instead of bitching about the timing of the Carlton decision.

LOL

4) Do Ginger Kids have Souls?

Unfortunately no, Ginger Kids are born without souls. A common misconception is that you need a soul to survive. This is completely false. Ginger Kids are people just like everyone else, even if they don’t have souls. Many Ginger Kids live happy, healthy, productive lives devoid of any sort of soul.

5) If a Ginger Kid bites me what should I do?

If you have been bitten by a Ginger Kid immediately wash the wound with soap and water. If you have alcohol or peroxide apply it to the wound. Then call your local poison control for further assistance.
