Another in the gauntlet of exciting young midfield prospects that could very easily be forgotten with the 2008 group. I see potential for him as a tagger.

My team :

B ANDERSON S OHAILPIN THORNTON
HB SCOTLAND WAITE WALKER
C SIMPSON HADLEY JUDD
HF GIBBS HARTLETT HOULIHAN
F FISHER FEVOLA BETTS
R CLOKE STEVENS MURPHY
INT CARRAZZO HAMPSON JACKSON SADDINGTON
EMERG BANNISTER BENTICK BOWER

My thinking is that Anderson provides good run, discipline, wont be exploited in the air. and could also tag. His kicking doesnt seem to me to exhibit a fundamental flaw and can accordingly be improved with hard work. Hadley provides a big body in the middle and any pace issues are minimised in the centre. Hartlett has the size attitude and booming kick to work at CHF if his body holds up and I just dont think he is comfortable in defence against anyone who can lead. Cloke gets the ruck because I cant face the prospect of Ackland again and nobody else seems ready yet. One or more of Zakky, Hammer and maybe Kreuzer will hopefully come on over the year. Saddington gives us some experience, height and versatlity and whilst he won't star I think deserves a spot for those reasons. Again, over the year others will hopefully come on.

I have run back over all the teams posted since the end of trade week and it is clear that we have a large degree of agreement about many of the players. There are 16 players who miss out on 0 or 1 lineups. The remaining 6 are in at least 2/3rds of the teams. There is a clear gap back to the next rank ie the emergencies and another step back to the 26th choice. The team comes together like this:

B CARRAZZO S OHAILPIN THORNTON
HB JAMISON WAITE SCOTLAND
C SIMPSON JUDD WALKER
HF GIBBS CLOKE HOULIHAN
F FISHER FEVOLA BETTS
R HAMPSON STEVENS MURPHY
INTS ANDERSON HADLEY JACKSON A OHAILPIN
EMERG BOWER HARTLETT RUSSELL

My view is that I don't think O'Hailpin is good enough to start on the ground. He will need to improve drastically to hold a spot once guys like Hampson, Jamieson, Hartlett, Austin improve.

I am unsure whether we could win a flag with him.

Walker Jamieson Thornton
Scotland Waite Bower
Murphy Carrazzo Simpson
Fisher Whitnall Gibbs
Betts Fevola Houlihan

Hampson Judd Stevens

Cloke Grigg Jackson Anderson

Emg: Bentick, Kruezer, Blackwell, O'Hailpin, Ackland

Russell has a long way to go - play him in the 2's until he is consistently dominating.

I think Grigg could suprise us next year - worth a punt for rising star!

After doing this you can see how much we are going to improve. I found that quite hard so for once their will be pressure to get a game

Are you kidding me, O'Hailpin not good enough? What Carlton have you been watching. This kid id enthusiastic, exciting athletic and got a bit of mongrel in him He is going to be an absolute superstar and i dont know what your on about.

bluejoker's only joking.

Setanta is a fixture in our first 22; the question is where? We need him in a KP back position; he'd be really fascinating on a wing, and he can fill a tall forward position too.

Anyway, back to what I was going to post.

Given our home ground is TD, I think with the leap Hampson and Aisake can extract from their tall athletic bodies, if they can aim to leap over opponents in the ruck and get the ball moving our way, we may have more than a nullifying combo we have longed for, and in fact a dominant force we can plan towards.

Add Kruezer....and these 3 in the team along with Setanta and Waite give as some tall yet athletic trump cards.

With Jamison, Thornton, Setanta & even Walker or Bannister to fill the key positions (depending upon matchups) down back I believe it is the perfect opportunity to use Waite in a floating role.

I would like to see him play as a third or fourth tall option up forward and he is also very good on the ground. He can play on ball or wing in spurts where I believe he would be extra dangerous.

With a very good midfield rotation now Waite could really be an X factor next year!

Finally the blues have got some depth and it is becoming difficult to squeeze guys into best 22, here is mine.

Anderson Jamison Thornton B

Walker O'Hailpin Scotland HB

Simpson (vc) Stevens (c) Gibbs C

Houlahan Waite (vc) Carazzo HF

Fisher Fevola Kruezer FF

Cloke Judd Murphy Followers

Inter: Russell, Betts, Hadley, Jackson

Plenty of guys who could make it but just missed out for me, guys like Bower, Hartlett, Hampson, Aisake and Benjamin need a bit longer to develop.

Bannister, Saddington, Bentick and Wiggins add depth and are unlucky to miss out

Judd, Stevens, Carrazzo, Gibbs, Scotland, Simpson and Walker all rotate through midfield.[/b]

this is not necesarrily the ideal 22 but it is the way I would like to see them line up.

B: Thornton O'hAilpin Jamison
CHB: Hadley Waite Scotland
C: Simpson Murphy Walker
CHF: Gibbs Hartlett Houlihan
F: Betts Fevola Fisher

R: Hampson Judd Stevens

INT: Cloke, Anderson, Carrazzo, Kreuzer

EMERG: Austin Grigg Russell O'hAilpin (A)

B: Carrazzo/Setanta (sm/tall) Jamieson Bower
HB: Hadley Thornton Scotland
C: Walker Stevens Simpson
HF: Fisher Waite Gibbs
F: Betts/Setanta (sm/tall) Fevola Houlihan
R: Cloke Judd Murphy
Int: Hampson Jackson Bannister Bentick

Emerg From: Russell, Saddo, Blackwell, Kruezer, Grigg, Hartlett, Wiggins

Midfield Rotation from Carrazzo, Hadley, Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Walker, Simpson, Scotland, Stevens with additonal support from Jackson, Bannister, Betts and Bentick gives us some hard bodies, speed and a mix of inside and outside players.

Backline: I have played Carrazzo back pocket as part of midfield rotation however Setanta or other players may swap depending on match ups. The last line is very inexperienced however I believe that Jamieson and Bower deserve the initial starting places in front of others based on their late season form.

Our half back line provides plenty of run with other options such as Houlihan, Stevens, Waite and Walker posibly swapping. etc

Waite will now be intergral to the forward line with Kennedy and Whitnall gone. I have chosen Cloke ahead of Acland as he is a better option going forward. The fact that Acland makes very little difference in the ruck counts against him. Additionally we have Setanta and Hampson for support. I believe that Hampson, Kruezer and possibly Aisake will rotate throughout the year as it will be too much wear and tear on their bodies. I have also included Wiggo on the bench primarily as a lead up forward option. Houla I believe should be played more forward now that we have options down back. Potentially could be worth 30-40 goals which we need with the loss of Lappin and Whitnall. I'd also like to see Walker learn the CHF role as he has pace and good marking abilities. Kicking for goal will obviously need to improve but can't be much worse than Fisher or Waite in this respect.

Jackson and Banno provide the run with options over Russell at this stage.

Opportunities obviously exist for guys like Edwards and Hartlett as KPP propsects but need to take their chances next year.

If Saddo is to play he's a better option at HB as he's spoiling in the last line is very poor from a standing start...was exploited considerably this year.

For mine Russell, Blackwell, Bentick, etc now need to earn their places with the depth we have while Jackson, Grigg, Anderson, Benjamin, Austin and others will be given opportunities throughout the year.

Our defense has been our problem for so many years but alot to do with that has been our very poor midfield. Now that our midfield is very strong our defense will look so much better. (midfield is everything) Therefor the rebound we can provide out of defense is exciting and crucial.
Waite as a loose man is ideal. Play defensive but with a ridiculous counter attack. Bower is stiff but could easily fit in.

Midfield speaks for itself with so many rotation options. Jackson might surprise a few but he has good defensive qualities.
Cloke will most likely play about 8 games before he does his shoulder, then our man Kruezer will come in and play the remaining 14 which is perfect for his first year.

Keep forward line as open as possible for the best FF in the league. Fisher to run his ass off in pre season and become a Hamill type just a lot better. Hartlett to have a crack at CHF coz of his good kick with betts at his feet. And Gibbs will kick 30 plus goals.

We are not gona win it in the next 2 years but will have a genuine chance in the third so the best way to develop young players is to play them in the seniors in the next 2 years.

Hoping that Waite gets proper coaching and instructions on how to play a defensive role cos he makes our defensive look so much better.

couldn't fit Betts in the 22..... i rather rest a midfielder in the forward pocket because at the moment his endurance is a problem.

Sorry Spartak, two horrors there AFIC...

Ackland - unless Aisake, Hammo, Cloke and the Tank all get injured I don't want to see him anywhere near a Carlton jumper

Houlihan - happy for him to be in the 22 but NEVER in the back half

I like Fevolutions idea of an NAB CUP team.

I've had enough of the NAB cup. I'd much rather give some game times to most of our kids and perhaps roadtest some new plays.

B: Anderson Austin Jamison
CHB: Bower Hartlett Grigg
C: Stevens Gibbs Walker
CHF: Benjamin Setanta Jackson
F: Betts Fisher Edwards

RR: Aisakie Murphy Simpson

INT:- Hampson / Judd / Hadley / Russell

Stevens needs a run after missing so many games.
Judd.............just for a bit of a tease!

Hartlett & Setanta i'd like to see switching a bit. Hartlett i see as being a Hamill type, but he could also slot in nicely at CHB.
Benjamin i put on the wing, mainly for his pace. But to be honest, i have no idea what position he is best suited for?

"Snake" (Edwards) i've put in the forward pocket but wouldn't mind him playing in the midfield for a bit too.

Walker is pretty much in the position i'd like to see him play most of the year at!

I haven't put in Kreuzer cause he aint a Blue yet. But if we do select him, i'd have no worries playing Aisakie, Hampson and Kreuzer in the same side. I'd probably rest Fisher, move Setanta to Full Forward and throw in Kreuzer at CHF.
