I personelly dont think Lance was all that bad a player... i think if he was born to play in the eighties or early 90's i think things may have been alot different for our lance but the game is getting pretty quick and the days of the big boys arent really good enough to chase down the young athletic type of players we have now...

I think lance would have found it a struggle if carlton let him continue...

I think Carlton should have just let him slip down to the Ants and helped out these young lads...

I wish red all the best for his future

cheers
OZ

What's stopping Lance from nominating for the national draft and being drafted with a late pick like Rodan?

both he and nixon probably believe he is worth more than the minimum wage and package that would come with that :garthp:

I think he could set his price in the national draft.

Why didn't any clubs trade for him if he's that good.

I'm not sure on the rules regarding the national draft, but I think Whitnall would receive a two year contract if he is drafted in November.

Is that correct? :?

Even Essendon* aren't dumb enough to offer him a two year contract.

Clubs would offer him a one year contract like Cameron Cloke received from Carlton and ask him to earn his keep.

Good luck in the future lance with Hamill your were an intergral part of our forward line structure and your demise came when he decided to up and go to the saints. (You were a good team with Hamill!)

As the story seems to be its a shame that u were too stubborn to take up a non playing role at the club and bow out gracefully. Now its a shit fight too bad u didnt show this stubborn streak when it came to being prepared.

Sorry to see Lance go. But not sorry at the same time.

But, let's face it, the writing's been on the wall for the last 2-3 years. And if he didn't pay attention to those warnings, he has to take a fair portion of the blame.

Steve Benson is inconsolable.

The bottom line was that the game had passed him by.

There was no place on the ground you could hide Lance

The Geelong game earlier in the season was the game where I thought there was no where to go but be delisted

Kicks a goal then gets smashed up forward.

Put him down back where Mooney, Ablett the Hawkins slaughter him because he simply has no mobility and cant jump

The other thing I have mentioned before is his height

At around 190 cm he is a shortarse now in terms of key positon players

This was at its most evident against the Cats.

His kicking skills also deterioted with time meaning playing as a loose man in defense was redundant as well

Simply the game had passed him by

It was fascinating watching his last few games.
He still had those footy smarts which got him out of trouble on occasions, but his time was up

Swann and Icke and Ratten should of just said straight out yesterday that he had been delisted.
Knowing the trouble surrounding Whitnall, it was going to be leaked to the press most probably

The game has passed him by. Players have got faster and taller and the game is played at breakneck speed.
Even if Lance had kept himself in shape all the time, I dont think it would make any difference.
I would be amazed if anyone picked him up

Roll on Saints and Tiggies.

The game has passed him by.
.

The game had passed him by last year, and yet somehow out of that he won the best and fairest and the role of captain. Arguably two of the most bizarre decisions in the club's history.

I for one have watched on tape a few of the games from last year and I cannot fathom how he won the best and fairest. In the Melbourne game from last year, for example, he played on Ben Holland.

Clearly Holland was never one of Melbourne's prime movers. So it appeared to me that Pagan designed a team around a weak link in Whitnall, giving him the least impressive forward and expecting Thornton and others to do the hard yards.

Carlton is very, very quickly becoming a powerful entity under the leadership of King Richard and Swanny. Total professionalism and excepting nothing but the best are their ultimate goals.

Having spent some time with Ratts I firmly believe he will leave no stone unturned in getting his beloved CFC back to the top.

He is fully focused on what needs to be done and I dare any player to step out of line from here on in while he is Coach. It is 1 in all in or don't bother turning up for your pay cheque.

The departure of Whits is virtually the final statement in a long line of statements since King Richard came back on board.

New Board
New Coach
New Assistant Coaches
New Fitness people
New Professionals behind the scenes
New Gym equipment
New Carlton
New Attitude

The players will want for nothing in the near future. They either earn their money and their place on the list or move on. Slackers and Bludgers will be weeded out very quickly by the Club.

Regards Cazzesman

Based on the fact that the clud is taking on a professional approach it could mean you might be looking for a new job soon Caz

I feel for Whitnall but he gave the club no choice in the end.
He was given the captaincy this year ffs.
Although I felt with the Kennedy trade we still need him and a performance contract might have been ideal for both, but the club obviously thought otherwise.

A great career in the Navy Blue, including a Grand Final, Best and Fairest, leading goalkicker several times, and a great football brain.

But the time has come. Don't go the draft, Lance. Call it a day! Go gracefully, go with dignity, don't go like Woewoedin and the other hacks that went the PSD and weren't even taken up.

What makes you say the club couldn't tell him directlywhen the article says that Ratts and Icke told him before flying out to Europe?

He should have a heap of money. After his contract in 2001 his manager had to place most of his salary funds in a trust account because Whitnall kept pissing up his money on the races and on the sauce.

hope lance gets picked up by footscray.
no reason he can't be a half decent full forward for them... they've got no-one else who could play FF at the moment.

if he can just roam within 40 metres of the goals and not have to be too accountable he'll do some damage for them.

dud way to end a career though.
