Some pathetic posts here about Big Red.

Seems like the demise of a Carlton player is a great day around here.

Pathetic comments, now is not the time for sniping.

I think I need a TC break for a while.

Punt Rd End looks warm and fuzzy compared to some of you pricks!

Bye Lance.......

What about his pathetic performance and application as a supposed captain and leader???

The whole team have been pathetic, pretty piss poor to single out one guy who has injury problems.
Do you know what I found hilarious about the morons from these sites over the years? When he played bad 'he was fat' but when he played good it was 'great to see him back in shape' yet the whole time he looked the exact @#$%&! same!

Its just a shame about Whitnall, I thought he might have had 1 more year. Whitnall will always be remembered as a Carlton man, good luck for the future 'BIG RED'

I actually hope he gets a few more seasons with another club but it seems unlikely.

sad to see him bow out in those circumstances. Hopefully he is retained at the club in some capacity.

I've actually not been a Whitnall fan for many years now (I thought that the loss of Hamill meant he was fairly ineffective over a long period of time).

But that said, it doesn't mean I am not sad to see it end like this. No I didn't want him on the list next year. But I do find it sad to see someone who, for whatever reason, has not made the most of his talents. There is no doubt that he was a blue through and through... and I guess I prefer to think of him as summed up by Tim Watson this year... as a player who would have been a wonderful footballer in the 1980's. So in the end, I put him down as the wrong type of player for his era... and that in itself is unfortunate.

Good luck for the future in whatever you do Lance... I kind of hope another club gives you a lifeline in the PSD... but if not, then just enjoy your greyhounds and your family life (that should in no way be read as a sarcastic comment - he has a loving wife and kids).

I for one am stoked.

Yes it's unfortunate that a Carlton captain is delisted........but the question by the Lance supporters should be WHY was he delisted?

As a senior Carlton player (at a time when we had so few) not to mention captain this year - to continually have weight issues (except in the last year of his contracts) is an absolute disgrace. He should be ashamed of his lack of professionalism.

Somewhat interesting that SEN's marc allen tried to stir things up about this, inviting listeners to call in expressing their shock and dismay about their captain getting the arse.

didn't get a single dissenting caller. Even after his mock-inflammatory editorial about carlton supporters 'choking on their weeties' over the breakfast headlines.

Tool.

Tough decision, but a correct one. We can get as romantic as we want about what Lance brought us during the good times, but a measure of a man is also determined by how he responds in the bad. This is where Lance failed miserably, and was the antithesis of everything that was wrong with our club during this time. I for one felt that getting the captaincy would be just the tonic needed for him to put these issues behind him, but it was not to be.

Lance has been a good servant to the club, and I wish him the best, but this decision is long overdue imo.

(Anyone know if a possible trade was mentioned?)

This is a bit of a watershed moment for the club.

Lance is the first 200 game player in the history of the club in the VFL/AFL not to have played in a premiership.

And all he had to do was hold on until the end of the next year!

In all seriousness, showed flashes of how dominant he could be if his body had let him (be it in or out of his control). Remember a game I went to up at the Gabba when he kicked 8-9 and Leppitsch resorted to throwing his boot up in the air when Whitnall was having a shot.

Thanks for the memories Lance! Hope this doesn't sour your love for the Club and you remain around the navy blue.

This is a great decision by the club.

As I have said in the past we could not justify carrying Cloke & Whitnall next year. Cloke was always the obvious choice (and there are no long term assurances on him either).

Interestingly, our oldest 2 players are Stevens & Saddington at just over 28. Unless we recruit a 30 year old (which I doubt) then we will go into next year without a single player within 18 months of 30!

I would like to know if this has ever happened before at either CFC or any other AFL club?

NO DECISION ON WHITNALL'S FUTURE AT CARLTON.

Ian Coutts our Communications Manager just contacted SEN and said no decision has yet to be made on Whitnall's future.

not too surprised at this - no mention of lance on realfooty, afl.com.au, HS, etc when you would have imagined they would be all over it.

I still think it is more likely that he will go although I'd love to have him retained on the list for an additional year (given that we dont know what our forward structure for 08 is atm - we have no CHF)

It is sad for him, but he didn't help himself over the years. Plus remember that our problems over the last five years go back to the 1995 flag when we kept players too long at inflated prices and paid the price. Whilst there is always some leeway for looking after stars, it cannot be to the detriment of the team.

Having said that, I will still remember that goal he kicked against Essendon* in the last quarter of the 99PF. on 45 degree angle from 50 plus (ah, those were the days before the fat set in)

Ricky Nixon confirmed that Lance has been let go. Club does not think his knee will hold up to AFL stress. Lance and Ricky obviously disagree.
