Was a wonderful player between 1997 to 2001.
Got injured in late 2001 and from then on thought it was all too easy.
He let both himself and Carlton down in the last 6 years. Lance didn't understand that the club is bigger then individual. The only time he was prepared to work hard was in the last years of his contract.
We had a great opportunity to off load him in the lsat 3 years but the spineless Pagan and Kernahan couldn't make a tough decision.
Great stuff Ratts and Swanny in getting rid of him.

This must be the first time a captain has been delisted by a club.

Best wishes Big Red.

Thank you for your service to this great club, and thank you to you and your brother for providing the material which lead to the 'egg thread' a little while back.

I hope you can contribute to Carlton in some way in the future.

It's especially sad when they've been delisted and they were a very good player at their peak. You don't survive 11 years and play 179 games at the one club if you're a hack.

All the best Lance.

Unlike Campo, Beaumont, Allan and Hamill, I hope you retire a one club player and a Carlton man.

That goal you kicked in the 1999 prelimary final was one of the best pressure kicks I've seen and something I'll never forget.

Kennedy is forced out and he's a saint, Lance is forced out and it's a time for celebration.

You have summed it up perfectly BI, I remember a magnificent game he played against the dogs at pp, think he kicked 8 goals from CHF. Thought he would make it to 300 games at that stage - All the best Lance, Thanks for the memories - you showed more then just potential

Good luck with the greyhounds Lance, and in what ever else you decide to do with your time.

Thank you for the memories, and putting your body through all the contests that contributed to your body's deterioration.

It's a shame you did not exit on your own terms.

Fantastic decision in the end, and one i perhaps did not expect with Kennedy gone. C'mon down Adam Hartlett!

It is sad to see Lance go. As others have pointed out, he was an awesome player from 1998-2001, but at the end of the day he was handsomely remunerated through the course of his career and became symbolic of a drop in our standards. Ultimately, he has not gone on to have a 250+ career because he failed to prepare himself in the proper way. We can talk about second chances, but Lance has had about 10 wake up calls over the past 6 years and he would tease us with promise and invariably revert back to his old ways. That's the difference with JK situation. Unfortunately, it was through no fault of JK that he was traded and it was a necessarily consequence to get CJ to the club. He did all the club asked of him and beyond, Lance did not!

Having said that, best of luck in retirement Lance. I hope you were smart enough to take care of your family's future and you can enjoy some more time with the kids.

Congratulations to the club, and in particular Pratt, Swann and Ratten. I couldn't be more impressed by the tough decisions they have made since they came to the club. They have made every post a winner, and I give them a 10 out of 10. Pagan sacked, priority pick acquired, Judd acquired, Lance sacked - this is the proverbial Carlton off-season wet dream. Thanks for the good times Lance, but the reality was you took the p1ss out of the club one too many times, and you had this coming.

Some of the comments here are terrible

Yes he had his problems but i personally wish Lance all the best for the future and thank him for his decade of service to the Carlton Football Club.

Sadly i don't think he ever reached his potential or more so constantly fulfill his potential over an extended period, but his good football was very good.

All the best Big Red and thankyou

I think the preparation attitude of lance can be seen from this experience I had with Lance in 1999.

I had gone up to see the blues play the lions in a final. This was two weeks before the big game agst Essendon*. We got absolutely thrashed by Brisbane.

I was staying in the same hotel as the carlton players. So after the game they all came back to the hotel and Parkin implemented a no going out or drinking night. All their mini bars had been emptied before they returned.

So, anyways, one of the persons I was staying with bumped into lance, and he invited us into his and ron deluilios apartment. So within 5 minutes they were trying to get us to get them 20 crownies, as they werent allowed to order them, and they were scare sticks might ping them. So being the compliant fans that we were, we orchastrated a cunning plan to order the crownies from our apartment and then sneak them down without sticks seeing. He also asked us to get him some of the chocolate bars from our mini bar, as his only had fat free muffins and fruit etc.

At the end of the night, we felt used and abused, and whitters didnt even contribute to the cost of the crownies, despite him probably being on $300000 + a year at the time.

But I suppose the most disappointing this was that this was his first afl final, and carlton had just been smashed, and he didn't appear to care one iota!

Now you might say the next 2 weeks we played bloody well, and lance played his part, but I suppose the attitude lance had is probably fine when your young, but when you get older, disrespecting your body and not preparing professionally is going to catch up with u, and I think that is what has happened to lance.

Anyways, thanks for the memories lance and I am still waiting for the cheque for the crownies.

He played over 200 games,(approx 215-200) not the rumoured 179-odd that Mark Robinson mentioned in the Bostonian a few months ago. Poor journalism then and even worse when Carlton supporters have no clue about it.

Some pathetic posts here about Big Red.

Seems like the demise of a Carlton player is a great day around here.

Pathetic comments, now is not the time for sniping.

I think I need a TC break for a while.

Punt Rd End looks warm and fuzzy compared to some of you pricks!

Bye Lance.......

I am unhappy about this decision and hope they draft him in the PSD

With our new look midfield big Lance can become twice the player he was. I think offer him 1 year on base and see if he plays well. What do we have to lose?

Thanks for your long service Lance. It is the right decision but quite honestly the celebration in here of the end of Carlton player's career leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

oh poor Bozman, sink the boots in why don't you - funny how you held onto this story until now.

Some people need to look at themselves, he is gone now, so enjoy the good times that he gave us.

Thanks Lance. 97 - 01 were his golden years but his performance this season symbolised all that was wrong with Carlton. Good luck, thanks for the service. The new era is upon us.

Shame his knee gave out this year, he was pretty good last season.

This is a bit of a watershed moment for the club.

Lance is the first 200 game player in the history of the club in the VFL/AFL not to have played in a premiership.
