I have been pondering what this would entail, brought on by the constant 'BS' about Glen Archer and his supposed special title.

So what would define the blue bagger of the century - I am not talking about the same traits that define the norf one. I believe that our player would be the definition of a big game winner, not necesarily consistently brilliant but one that shines when it counts and can kick the winning goal as well as deliver the knock out bump.

I guess we have had too many talented players to contend for such a title - unlike North, who, lets face it probably had about 4 players to consider (Keith Greig, Shimma, Stevens and Archer).

For some reason Wayne Johnston keeps coming to mind when I think of a player that sums up what is Carlton.

But how can we ever hope to compete with such a mighty, mystical force of nature such as the shinboner spirit. It can't be done, it's madness I tell ya. MADNESS!

Seriously though, Dominator is the first one to come up on the list for me too. Southby is another, or even big Nick.

What is Carlton?

It's about Premierships.

Few blokes did more to put trophies in the Princes Park cabinet than the Dominator...

Bruce Doull for mine.
Tough, reliable, rarely beaten, unassuming and without the arrogance.
The bloke just did his job better than anyone else I know of who has worn the Navy Blue.

I agree far better then Wayne Johnston who struggled in his last couple of seasons due to injury more then anything,Doull never did.

'Twould definitely be either Nick or Doormat .. Probably Big John coz he has a medal named after him, which says something, but Bruce for sheer determination, the will to just keep going (what would have happened if he'd have gone that extra year, and then retired with another premiership medal, I wonder), and then the "what's the fuss - it's my job" attitude

But in the spirit of

Under that criteria Wayne Johnston is a stand out.

Should that be our criteria though?

Doing whatever it takes to win a premiership, despite seemingly insurmountable odds.

Thread over.

Archer was a very tough customer but he didn't belong in that bracket with Hird, Kouta and Riccuito the other night. He never reached the levels of excellence those guys did.

Yep: what was it? Broken rib or punctured lung? And he wouldn't go off because he'd be letting the side down? They certainly don't make players like that any more

Dominator, Jezza, Nicholls, SOS, Sticks, Hunter or Doull.

Take your pick.
